Artists Describing Their Art:
Sandra Bryant - For us, mosaic is a form of magic. The process of breaking down large sheets of glass, finding that perfect glass for each small piece, that just right hue, level of transparency and surface texture that will speak to what IaEURtmm trying to say with this glass aEURoebrush stroke.aEUR The medium is always a joy and a challenge, cutting the perfect shape and size tesserae to create that feeling. The overall theme of our artwork is a resolute celebration of this life of our world, both our own creations and of natural things. Mosaic carries a message of wonder, not only in the monuments and architecture of our surroundings, but also of the hope intrinsic in this celebration...
Suzanne Mcclelland - DESIGNER, ARTIST, INSTRUCTOR, AND MENTOR II am a professional artist and Designer in the Sacramento area. I have a love for being creative with my clients in their home and office projects. Art has always been a love of mine. Because I visit so many homes and office I decided to extend my professional ability to create wonderful spaces for my clients. I want to bring more knowledge to the public on how I create my artwork and how it brings life to their spaces. I love the color, texture and the flow of the Pastel medium that I can use to make the piece fit in that special place. I mostly blend the pastels and use vibrant hughes. I build layer on top of layer to get the effect I want. I use different papers to create different effects that I want and go from there. I am an abstract artist and love the journey it takes me. I also work in Acrylics which I am now working with some new ideas, and will be sharing that with all of you soon. I love the energy that I feel when I work with my paintings which I share with ...
Clark-camargo Mary - I have found an outlet for my love of color and texture and that is with Glass Mosaic. I originally started doing abstract because I can feel the patterns and shapes like music flowing from my fingers. I have recently started doing more realistic pieces finding the glass to be my perfect paint. I am constantly experimenting with new techniques to add even more texture and interest to my art....
Nathalie Vin - When not working on fixed commissions or client-led designs, Nathalie is drawn to expressing philosophical notions, "permanence and impermanence, life and death, man versus nature, the future and our responses to it." There are undoubtedly recurrent themes in her work, an outcome of her innate instincts and interests. She is fascinated by the notion of the essential'now', that ever-fleeting moment when eternity is glimpsed but never retained. She is intrigued by nature and how small our human concerns are in comparison to it. The concept of microcosm within the macrocosm and how fragments are echoed and repeated to form the larger picture, embodies her work. Her fundamental activity is with fine art mosaics but her life and explorative curiosity informs her art, working with installation (perhaps the most monumental example of this is The Glow project), film, commissioned photographic documentaries for Holocaust Memorial day, sculpture and painting. Considering the process, Nathalie's work investigates the small and how it builds into a larger whole. Whether she is making film, a mosaic piece or an installation she puts elements together like a puzzle. These could be mosaic tiles, wood elements, photographic or video images, memorabilia of people's ...

Dyanne Williams - Like many artists, I've experimented with many different mediums to find the one that best expresses my creative impulses. Creating mosaics is fulfilling because it is not just the act of designing, but the satisfaction of physically building a work of art. The infinite range of colors and textures of glass provide me with endless possibilities. My art is a reflection of myself: learning, growing, constantly evolving. My works attempt to display the beauty of nature in a different medium. My goal is to recreate the experience of discovering a natural wonder, the excitement you feel the moment that you crack open a geode and discover the beauty that lies within a simple rock. Just like in nature, my work is filled with philosophical contrasts: simpiicity amidst complication, harmony admist conflict, order amidst chaos. I feel I achieve this through intricate design with simplicity of pattern and repeating motifs. As sophisticated as art itself, glass is timeless, sturdy, and complex. Through it I can create original and vivid designs, bringing one of the oldest art forms into the modern age. Overall, my work combines organic shapes from nature with contemporary design....
Sudarshan Deshmukh - I create mosaic art panels and decorative pieces, sculptures, paintings, and drawings. My works range from the abstract to the designative, and my inspiration is derived from a wide range of sources, including internal issues and meditations, technology, and the natural environment. I include experiences from my past and my travels in the visual art I create today. When I work with wood, metal, stone, glass, or ceramic tiles, my goal is to transform these seemingly static substances into dynamic works that resonate with delicacy, softness and pliancy. My mission is to work with my materials in a way that will help viewers experience the mood, meaning and esthetics of my art without focussing initially on the actual materials. Although I am a self-taught artist, I have taken courses in Old Masters drawing and painting, and this training often surfaces in my work: I love the play of dark and light tones, and I enjoy pushing even the simplest materials to their limits. I thrive on the challenges involved in creating "paintings" from small pieces of glass or carving a "living" creature from a chunk of stone. I believe that we can all only achieve a genuine understanding of ...
