  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Garry Pisarek - I would like my paintings to be viewed not just as pictures but as emotional responses, or as a collection of feeling about the subject I am trying to represent. In my painting I try to make each line of color represent a speed of light and a direction for the viewer's eye to travel, giving a time-space element to the composition, as opposed to a frozen in time view of a photograph. These elements make up a controlled composition. Each line, color and shape moves the eye through the visual space inviting the viewer into the painting and guiding them in and out of the visual space, "entertaing the eye" along the way....

Goran Petmil - For as long as remember I've been working on the art that makes up my world, a detailed rethinking of the stored hot inspiration within me. In 2005 I had partially withdrawn from the gallery exhibition spaces forming an opening only in his studio in Southampton. I work my art slowly, taking my time and leaving my pieces to take shape and breathe in the depths of my studio, working on my them for months I come back to them from time to time. I do not live by images, but I live for the art, I do a process of researching materials and textures, with each new layer of paint I'm opening up my own spiritual quest. Destruction, properties that disappear and matter are the primary goal and reason for my creativity, it launches my energy and ignites my spirit to star a feast of many layers, texture and color, it all comes to surface in the art. I find a rays of hope and truth in the landscapes that men ruthlessly destroys all more and more. Large formats are a great part of my excitement, many size paintings, from realistic, to abstract, and sculptures are a ...

Randy Sprout - I grew up in a small town in Northern Iowa, played football, coached the swimming team, and graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in printmaking studying under Mauricio Lasansky. I then went into the Army and ended up pulling 13 months in Korea on the DMZ. Coming out of Korea I entered UCLA and earned a MA and MFA in printmaking while studying under Jan Stussy and Stanton Mac-Donald Wright. The next year after the funds dried up on my Fulbright Award to Portugal, because of the Angola War, I was lucky to get hired by USC where I taught printmaking as a junior faculty member. I also replaced professors at UCLA when they went on sabaticals, and taught one year at Pierce College. In 1977 I tried Real Estate, you know just for the summer, but by fall I had purchased Century 21 Hollywood Inc. and had a new vocation going. Now 31 years into real estate, I'm coming full circle and starting to paint little quick studies 9X12. I'm using just 1/2 inch brushes and 5 colors. I intentionally limit my time to 2 hours after which I stop and throw ...

Jacquie Vaux - My goal as an artist, is to present a beautiful veiw of wildlife in the form of fine art paintings.I strive to show the vivid colors and patterns in the most appealing compositions. I also demonstrate natural behavior and some element of habitat that most beautifully presents this subject manner in the most visually exciting format. I respect and appreciate the wildlife I depict in my paintings. I study and work on improving my technical expertise. This is a never ending process which I address on a daily basis. I have a strong work ethic which allows me to stay focused in order to complete large complex works. I look forward to painting larger paintings of big animals such as elephants, giraffes and cape buffaloes. I am also eager to paint more botanical and floral paintings. ...

Marcia Pinho - To love humanity is an essential condition for artistic practice. The pictoric production of Marcia Pinho presents a poetry marked by sensitivity in the treatment of the human figure and the city, themes that seem very close to her. The first one motivates a reflection about the nature of beauty while the second considers the most diverse environments as places of the expression of existential life. Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil on March 14, 1976, Marcia burst into the world of art when she moved to the city of Sao Bernardo. Encouraged by her brother who gave her a small screen and acrylic inks, she started to create, painting at least three or four pictures per day. The next step was to visit museums, for close observation of the great masters, and navigate the internet, searching for several kinds of information. Her constant research led to painting courses with the artist Eliana Ducatti and at Escola de Arte de Sao Paulo, where she found professor Eden Della Bella Jr. Thus, by her search for the aesthetic solutions which illustrate the relationship of the artist with the world, the painting of Marcia Pinho gained a ...

Martha Johnson - Photography spoke to me as an art form when I took a basic photography class while working toward a Bachelor of Fine Art in painting. I liked the endless possibilities of technique that are available when capturing light images. I changed my emphasis to photography and started to explore basic black and white images. I explored alternative processes such as posterization with internegs and color filter packs and liquid emulsion on handmade surfaces. For as long as I can remember I've loved looking at the sky - day and night. My location and my love for clouds led me to try my vision of sunset and storm images. The play of light and shadow from the clouds racing across the sky are a challenge to capture in a way no one's seen before....

Barbara A Jones - Barbara Ann Speed Jones lives in Corsicana, Texas with her husband, Mark. They have one daughter and three grandchildren who are a great inspiration for her artwork. She has studied with several classical artists and approaches every new subject as an opportunity to learn. She believes the challenges in painting are endless and the journey makes life interesting. Her work is represented by the Wee Gallery Fine Art, LaNana Creek Gallery and Paulson Gallery. Artist Statement I have painted most of my adult life and to me the creative process is a passion. It is truly a gift to view the world as an artist. The beauty of the ordinary is what I try to capture in my paintings. We are surrounded by unlimited opportunities to share with others the unique qualities of color, light and form that are part of our everyday lives. Too often we overlook the simple beauty of God's creations or pass them by. That is what I seek to capture in my work. Still life painting is my main focus but I also love figure painting and plein aire. Whether it's the quiet glow of a sunlit morning, the softness of a cloudy ...

Katalin Luczay - Painting to me is an expression, interpretation, and appreciation of the world around me. In my opinion any art should inspire and elevate the human spirit. These types of art works are immortal, such as the works of the old masters. In my paintings I strive to achieve these ideals. I would describe my works as related as representational realism. In my seascapes I bring many different colors together to illustrate the movement of water. In my landscapes and still life works I like to emphasize the play of light as it hits a focal point. I like to paint in oil because I can achieve this sense of light and motion by glazing over layers, as well as in oil I can achieve a richness that I find limiting in other mediums. Please see my website at

Ilona Jetmar - Primarily my art is about my spiritual journey and my Honours Thesis is dealing with the idea of the spiritual in painting. Wassily Kandinsky's book "Concerning the Spiritual in Art" sparked my interest in this topic. I have been looking at the philosophy of the Romantics particularly literature that deals with the sublime and how this relates to notions of the spiritual. The artist's that I take an interest in are Rick Amor, Louise Hearman, Edward Hopper, Rembrant, Caspar David Friedrich and JMW Turner. All of these artists use light as one of the main tools to create mood and atmosphere in their paintings and this is what inspires my work also....
