  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Hongvan Ng - A VISION COMES FROM A POINT WHERE THE IDEAS START. Painting is a powerful language in which I express myself and communicate. The message within each painting is an illustrated element or aspect of my life. I paint the moments that capture me, the beautiful and the painful for the exquisiteness of any moment can make me cry, and then I paint. Sketching and drawing are tools of my vocabulary with which I discover and reveal my thoughts and feelings, and when I forget that I am making art, when I am purely communicating, I am free. ...

Janet Allinger - Curriculum Vitae: Janet Allinger was born in 1964 in Detroit MI and lives and works in Santa Cruz, CA. Her medium of choice, is acrylics. Allinger has shown her works at many businesses and shows including the 2002-05 Open Studio exhibits held in Santa Cruz, CA, and the first Santa Cruz Digital Art Festival. Bé Van Der Heide - Artist Statement I do work mostly in series. The images shown in my portfolio are examples of different series all executed over the last ten years. Some of the latest series such as "Dance of the transient forms" and "Collapse" have recently been exhibited in the Mas Poch Gallery in Spain. The most extensive series is called the "ENFANT TERRIBLE" series. These are drawings and paintings, mostly of a little girl and her family and friends. The rather menacing images of a seemingly helpless frightened little girl, being held tight or prettied up with bows in her hair, are inspired by photographs in my family album. In these drawings I am not interested in a photographic likeness, but I try to express a feeling about these people in the pictures. Part of the series were shown in the LCP Gallery in London during summer 2002 and in the Mas Poch Gallery in Spain November 2003. The series before "Enfant Terrible" is called: "WEBS", inspired by the sight of insects, leaves, dried up larvae; all caught in a Spiders web underneath a box on top of one of my work tables in the studio. They have been considerably enlarged; some paintings...

Joel P Heinz Sr. - Joel P Heinz Sr. was born in Hastings, Minnesota; raised and educated in Northern California: served in the Army in Viet Nam, and raised a family in California. He worked in various sales positions until he found his calling working with mentally disabled adults. He is now retired and living his dream in Maui with his wife, Kathy. In 1995, Joel began painting using acrylic paint on canvas with no formal art training. His artwork evolved from associating with other artists and the joy of experimenting and discovery. In the beginning, his favorite subject was Tropical Marine, colorful tropical landscapes and underwater scenes. As part of the evolution of his art, he dabbled in Egyptian art for a short time in order to practice working in detail, a noticeable characteristic of most of his artwork on canvas. For years he had appreciated artwork from a distance only to be disappointed in the lack of detail when viewed close up. He wanted his work on canvas to be detailed enough to be clearly seen whether viewed up close or from a distance. In the 21 years prior to moving to Maui, Joel's twice-annual visits to Maui cultivated an appreciation ...

Donna Schaffer - Art has been a main thread throughout my life. It has woven through 23 years of advertising agency and photojournalism experience and has resulted in the development of my personal dimension of oil painting - especially in the painting of incredible undersea environments and marine life. This connecting thread of art has made me very aware of the color and light in the undersea world of scuba diving. I've been a scuba diver since 1976; an underwater photographer since 1983; and a full-time fine arts oil painter since 1998. In addition to lots of dive adventures from Point Lobos to the Monterey Wharf, I've been all over the world to pursue scuba diving adventures - Papua New Guinea, Palau, the Great Barrier Reef, Truk Lagoon, Fiji, Cayman, Turks & Caicos, Bahamas, Roatan, Barbados, and more. At each location the underwater marine life and scenes were photgraphed and sketched. Looking at the resulting slides with an artist's eye has always been a disappointment. Underwater flash photography can cause garish shadows in images. Natural light is too dim to show any color on the exposed film besides blue (especially in these Northern California waters). The deeper a diver goes, the more ...

Pietro Bellani - Born 1944 Licciana Nardi in the province of Massa-Carrara (Tuscany). In 1960 begins in earnest his artistic activities prevalently dedicated to visual art. In 1961 becomes an active participant of the art group "Lionello Venturi" in La Spezia. During these early years of the Sixties involves himself in experimental research of photography and 8mm film. In 1963 produces several stage designs for the Civic Theatre in La Spezia. Is invited to join the "Promotrice di Belle Arti Di Torino" which is an associate of the international Cultural Exchange in Rome. Is the founder-member of the group "Arte Grottesca" linking the cities of Pisa and Milan. In 1965 moves to Paris and frequents the studios of several artists, one of whom is the noted Abstractist Folmer. From the mid-sixties to the mid-eighties he involves himself more with Figurative Art. For the last fifteen years his work is based on abstraction. Pietro Bellani has been invited to numerous exhibitions and prize showings....

Moustafa Al Hatter - Artist Statement The important change of my pictorial background took place In the Caribbean, I found myself immersed in the tropical light, which suggested an approximation and rediscovering of color, but the big change happened in Egypt I was touched by its great ancient civilizations. Maybe the transformation in Egypt and in the Caribbean was due to the accumulation of remembrances of my travels to different countries all over the world that were finally settled and allowed the technical and stylistic turn of my painting. Moreover I began to capture those magical and mysterious moments of life, from the obvious that can be seen by my eyes, to the visionary that is perceived by my heart and soul. In my work of art, I abandon the representation of reality, and Stay away from mundane affairs. There is an intention to paint from my memory, which gathers and molds the remembrance of travels, promenades in mysterious old civilizations, and in tropical latitudes. The conventional means of expression is put aside, thus allowing spontaneity with the intention of preserving directness and originality of the living experience. I have placed my art into compartments, while maintaining a sense of unity. The small painted ...

Nicole Peña - In many of my paintings I depict entranced individuals who are seduced into a musical and psychic celebration. A song lives within the space of my canvas enrapturing participants to sway to its vibrations and experience its sensual essence. In one painting a frenzied conga compels hips to gyrate and eyes to close while in another a gentle psalm inspires as it soothes the soul. In these works, rhythm liberates the body and frees the spirit by compelling the participants to combine sensual movements with soulful meditations....

Erik John Bertel - I don't want to waste a lot of time with my statement. If my intentions were to be a writer I'd write a book and skip all of this painting nonsense. It's definitely a lot cleaner. So I did, it is called Flores Girl: The Children God Forgot, and it is available as a free podcast at Podiobooks.com. For more go to the www.floregirl.com site. Once I'm done with this writing escapade I will get back to painting. I miss it already. That said I still have my art site dedicated to exploring art on the Internet and showcasing my original art. The original artwork consisted of a series paintings that were done in acrylic and oil. You'll find those works on this site and they were originally showcased on a companion site called the Millennium Painting. This site goes a step further exploring a number of conceptual art pieces some of which are designed specifically for the Internet. You can to www.millenniumpainting.com to explore and enjoy. There is no pressure to buy nor is there anything to be sold on this site. We hope to keep it this way ...

Carola Daireaux - Carola Daireaux was born in Seville Spain from an Argentinean family in 1967. She graduated in Fine Arts from the University UFRJ of Rio de Janeiro Brazil in 97. With her acrylics on canvas paintings she represents in a colorful lively way her feelings about everyday experiences. Stephanie Hayden - My work varies in style, i try to capture moments of my life on different canvases, from watercolours, acrylics, to montages, sculpture and my photography. Much of my work is dark & disturbing and i can attribute it to the fact that until recently i was registered blind, legally, having been born with dislocated lenses. The more vibrant & colourful works are from my later period after i had surgery to implant interocular lenses, thus i now see the world in a totally different way. This can be seen across my portfolio....

Rodolfo Chavarriaga - Rodolfo Chavarriaga Biographical Sketch Rodolfo Chavarriaga was born in Bogota, Colombia, S.A. in 1951 He lived in Bogota until the age of six, moved to Paris for a period of one year, and then returned to Bogota. Influenced by his grandfather, an impresario and filmmaker, as a young man Chavarriaga showed an interest in sculpture, film, dance, theatre and music. His surrounding changed again a year after returning to Bogota when his family moved to Medellin, Colombia. Returning to Bogota one year later, he attended several different schools between the ages of 8 and 13. Was later enrolled at the boarding school Colegio Sugamuxi in Sogamoso, Boyaca. Chavarriaga's world changed once again the summer of 1966. Fourteen at the time, his whole family migrated to Miami, Florida. Chavarriaga recognized his love for art early on. With an aptitude for the manual and visual arts, he started to realize his calling and inclination during his youth. He began to display talent in this area while living in Paris as a child. He focused on and had the opportunity to develop his skills in the plastic arts during his schooling in Colombia, enrolling in and excelling at coursework in the ...

Lynette Vought - I heard a writer say once that how we experience life is an illusion and that the purpose of art is to uncover reality. Indeed, reality seems quite like a set of unturned cards, and I'm not sure we can define it until after our hand has been played. The best solution I have found is to fray the edges of the illusion a bit by bending the laws that everyone knows. In my work people can fly, plants and people merge, women wear snorkels while making love. For me, these images hint at reality, opening a back door to the underlying truth of what I see and experience. By rendering things in a magical light, the illusion starts to give way to the real in the same way that madness sometimes serves to define sanity. Formally, my work is much more practical. I make paintings, drawings and intaglio prints based on my drawings. The prints are a mixture of old and new processes; instead of etching the plates in acid, my prints are made with photosensitive plates. I enjoy the control this process gives me over the final image. Thank you for visiting my site! --Lynette Vought ...

Pedro Martin De Clet - Born: Brooklyn; New York. Raised:New Haven; Connecticut. "I am completely self-taught. & although I work in all mediums, I consider myself first & foremost a Painter. My subject matter is everything having to do with life. Love, hate, joy, fear, pain, happiness, sorrow, & everything in between. I Paint what others can't or won't. I believe that ideas are only as good as the content that embodies them. I Paint the truth. I have no time to waste. Neither the viewers, nor mine. I leave that to the pretenders & posers, content on ideas without substance & clean hands. Painting should be as real as the Paint on the canvas, or piece of paper; or what have you. I do not mean that it has to be figurative, but that it should carry the weight & conviction of a soul. Then if it is any good, the viewer will either love it, or hate it. & this is what I am after." pedro ...

Richard Wynne - Richard is an acclaimed International Artist recently returned to the USA. Richard has lived in many Countries. "The last being Thailland. He started his art studies at a very young age at the John Herron Art Institute In Indianapolis, Indiana and then later at the Art Institute of Chicago Richard has lived in many countries, painting, and playing music. Mr Wynne has exhibited in Thailand, the United States, Spain, Argentina, Kuwait, Korea, Ihdia, and other Countries. Sometimes perhaps I say too much about my self but maybe it helps people understand what motivates my work. For your information I've lived in 8 different countries and have been around the world 5 times. I speak a few different languages, some very well; others not so well. By the way I am not a workaholic as I don't consider what I do work. I enjoy life too much. I forgot to say I am also a weight lifter as lifting weights is my Zen. When I am troubled the concentration it takes to lift makes me calm. I guess my page will probably be a little different from what people expect. Sorry I have not been uploading new work as ...
