Artwork Description:
Collection of RB Funk. One of the Cataluyan-based cityscapes depicting the citys reflective sea light, gothic alleys, and colorful history. I don know why, but the city has a feline feel to it, like a constant purring in its soul. I tried to capture this wonderful seaports mystery in this work at night.
Note: Picasso had his first solo show in Barcelona at a cafe, which is still in existence, called The Four Cats. He did not sell one work.
Note: This painting was inspired by a night when I was drinking with friends at The Four Cats Cafe; suddenly, a major electrical black-out struck the city and area with a radius of over twenty miles. Fortunately, one of our pary members was a linguist and tour guide, who knew the Gothic Quarter like the back of his hand. Residents quickly placed candles in their windows and on the narrow sidewalks; and, I was able to experience this neighborhoods (built before electricity was invented) night the way people experienced it 500 years ago. It was amazing!
