  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Jean Judd - Every quilt tells a story and every quilt is unique. The common factor in all quilts is that fabric and thread are used to create a piece of art. To many viewers, cutting up perfectly good pieces of fabric into little pieces and then sewing them together again into a totally different looking piece of fabric, is unbelievable. Who would want to do this day in and day out The dedicated quilt artist and fabric collector I have always enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together and the same person who enjoys jigsaw puzzles discovering a finished masterpiece constructed of hundreds or even thousands of little pieces is drawn to the magic of quilt design. Each quilt design is a puzzle waiting to be put together. The design starts in the quilt artists mind and is eventually transferred into reality with the final stitch in the quilt. Many times the original design is nothing like the finished quilt but this just adds to the excitement and the design potential for the next quilt design. What starts in the mind is often transformed into a bigger, better and more dramatic finished quilt than the artist ever imagined. I prefer to make my own ...

Andrea Waxman Mulcahy - My work illuminates an energetic state that exists yet is generally not seen. Movement as it is captured in space indicates pathways and an energy flow. Visualization of this movement brings to mind that which is not seen in the world but still exists. Im intrigued by the way simple lines can become complex structures and how complex structures can be reduced to simple lines. I choose to work in steel because it gives me the most immediate connection to my thoughts and the welding process allows me to quickly execute my ideas. The stability and the permanence of metal also gives me the capability to build with structural freedom. Steel rods can represent an single line allowing the negative space to become an important part of the sculpture and the bent steel rods create a fluidity that lets one forget that the structure is made of hard steel....

Judith Smith Wilson - Welcome to the world of exotic animals and culture as seen through the eyes of this extraordinary artist. Follow the mood as Ms. Wilson leads you to the darkest regions of Africa and beyond.....She has been specializing in Animal Wildlife Paintings and portraits of people for over 40 years. She is a will known animal ecologist, and belongs to many wildlife organizations, including the East African Wildlife Society. Ms. Wilson has traveled to Kenya East Africa, and Rwanda East Africa, three times. She also has had the privilege to observe the endangered Mountain Gorillas in the Virunga Mountains, and all of Africa's wonderful wildlife. Ms. Wilson has cared for many injured wild animals, eventually releasing them back to their native habitat. One of these animals, a bobcat named "Precious" was not able to be released, and remained a beloved friend to her family for over twenty years. She has shown her work in Nairobi and Rwanda East Africa, and many Galleries in the United States over her 40 year career. Her work is currently being shown in San Diego, Los Angeles California and The Fine Art museum in Owensboro Kentucky. Also in Owensboro at'Gallery 412' and'Grey ...

Judith Smith Wilson - Marcia Freedman - My art process is part of the contemporary cultural dialogue, observing and commenting on events and things that already exist. I use organic forms found within landscape or the human body as a source. My work is based on visceral reactions based on the fluidity of life and changes that occur in the body due to the effects of genetics and/or the environment. Images of pods, organs, body parts, rocks and cellular forms deteriorate into abstract images conjuring up complex associations, perceptions and emotions connected to the human condition. Source materials are processed so that multiple readings are investigated. Abstract evolving imagery gives insight into the possibilities of processes both artistic and intellectual. The paintings integrate the personal and memory with organic objects exploring science with nature and the potential they present for investigating new ideas to describe the life cycle. They become a metaphor for internal landscapes and external perceptions but on a wider scale transcend the individual to a broader one, open to further interpretations. Original forms are fragmented, deconstructed, fractured and reconfigured into abstract forms as the creative process dictates the way. The physicality of the paint joined with resultant symbols is a narrative or dialogue ...

Maciej Hoffman - First there is always a concept, an idea. Sometimes, I have an impression that the painting is painting itself, an intuition is guiding me while painting. The subjects which interest me result from my experience, from everyday life, from the everyday problems, and the issues that puzzle us throughout the years, forming our way of looking at the world, changing us. My observations are directed to catch the moments of tension, drama, and the clashes in the everyday life. I am formally interested in contrasts of textures, colors and the means of presentation. Sometimes, one line or one spot influences the entire painting. If there is no feeling of suspense, it means that it is not done yet. I like to work at a fast rate, I paint as if I were throwing out of me a painting hidden inside. In painting, I appreciate the courage of opinion and the freedom in the means of expression. I do not like decorativeness and submission to trends or fashion. I do not place emphasis on means of expression or artistic techniques &...

Hope Brooks - I am often asked the question what is my work about which is a little like being asked what is life about because in art as in life each person must bring their own experience and provide their own answers. Quite simply my work is about life and the enigma that surrounds existence. I make reference to specific experiences or draw on visual reality to act as a frame to the broader content and people bring their own interpretations as well. When I began painting in the 60's I was focused on talking about natural phenomena that I found around me in Jamaica, such as the sea, the mountains, or the moon but I was also trying to find a language that expressed the essence of that place I called home. In 1980 I travelled to Baltimore USA and my visual surroundings changed completely. This city had none of the natural landscape but it had beautiful stained glass windows and during my year at the Maryland Institute I produced a large body of work called "Windows". This included prints as well as paintings of the secular as well as the ecclesiastical windows. Someone looking at the work once said ...

Edem Elesh - I am interested in examining the miracle of everyday existence. I have lead a very unique life. Born in Los Angeles and educated from an early age at English boarding schools, I have been exposed to two different cultures. This gives my work an American energy with English sensibilities. I am intrigued by the interplay born of this duality: order and chaos, old and new, the conscious and unconscious, structure and freedom. Not to mention expectation and accident. I am currently working with a new form of mixed media which allows, to an even greater extent, the chances of an interplay between process and providence....

Michal Ashkenasi - Welcome to my Portfolio! If you are wondering if this is just another floral/landscape artist,I am not! My work is abstract-figurative and ,as you see,I love color!!I work directly on the canvas and the images come out of my imagination or from my memory . I do Collages and Watercolor too , but for me , the most deep feelings come out with Oil or Acrylic. With those media I can fulfill the strong contrastes I work with , and which are part of my style....

Franziska Turek - This painting is individual, without any compromise, it combinates the occurence with intuition. The pictures are intrinsic of a special magic, which is not intended or planned, its resulting out of the painting process. The organic impressioned spaces and worlds of this pictures lead to associations and they will contemplate the art of painting themselves, they open a fascinating spectrum of color, area, line, which combines to mythical compactness. ...

Michael Pickett - I donaEURtmt know how IaEURtmm able to do all of this, but somewhere inside me I know that I stand out from the rest, IaEURtmm unique and have some powers that are beyond comprehension. I stay pretty much to myself and I feel like someone who is not from this planet and that there are differences that I readily perceive. All of this makes me self-conscious and also makes me more critical of myself. I judge and criticize myself a lot which I should not, but I do because I feel alienated at times. IaEURtmm vary humble and definitely not better than anyone else. I have so much to achieve, and thataEURtms why I take my own time to do so, there are times when I get irritated and agitated because of keeping a lot of expectations for myself, and when IaEURtmm not able to execute it, I feel low. However, I have to make sure that all these expectations are achievable, not impractical and unfeasible. As a result, I trust my intuition more which allows me to communicate with others. Self-expression and originality are also associated with me. There is a ...
