Artwork Description:

This etching employs the techniques of INTAGLIO, AQUATINT AND DRYPOINT. The image is taken from an albumen print created between 1865 -1889 by J. Pascal Sebah Turkish photographer. The scene shows a series of Islamic towers in Egypt executed in the Malmuk. This original photo is from the A. D. White Architectural Photographs Collection, Cornell University. This specific etching is executed on two individual zinc plates placed on the press simultaneously to produce one image. The singular plates measure 6 inches high by 9 inches wide, making the etched image 12 inches high by 9 inches wide. The print size measures about 17 inches high by 15 inches wide. A liquid hard ground--which is a mixture of mineral spirits and beeswax--was used on my zinc plates, and I employed six acid-baths before being satisfied with the design. I employed a created blend of colored, oil-based etching inks from Paris, Charbonnel brand, and executed the printing on STONEHENGE BLACK printmaking paper from U. K.. This is the FIRST EDITION, the ONLY edition without an aquatint sky. There are only 5 prints in this edition. The work was hand printed and published by the artist at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Please note that this etching is shipped to the collector without a frame or mat. This keeps the price low and allows the collector personal choice in mat selection and framing. A sturdy cardboard box is employed for shipping the work. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping carton and securely packed with bubble wrap. The Absolute Arts Dot Com price includes all handling costs, shipment supplies, and the coast of the shipment box. Mailing costs are added. I feel that this work captures the aura of Egypt in the late nineteenth century, before electricity polluted our night sky.
