Artwork Description:

Note The edition number, one of ten, sold on Nov 30, 2014. The edition number pictured here is TWO of TEN. Techniques include intaglio, aquatint, chine colle. The image depicts the Bernini sculpture, The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa, in Rome at the Cornaro Chapel, Santa Maria della Vittoria. The letter X represents the unknown in algebra. In poetry, it represents the uncovering between the realms of pleasure and pain. St. Teresa of Avila, a cloistered Carmelite nun, Spanish mystic, poet, and visionary. In the Bernini work, the sculpted lines are flowing and clear. . . crisp and soft. The scene needs no explanation. In my etching, the lines between dream and reality, despite their heaviness and naked rawness, blur into a misty light. My angel is cloaked in a lavender cloud as the Saint swims in a sea of lines and points. . . in a realm between the doors of perception and the hallway to the breathless discovery of self and God. Silver etching ink on Stonehenge black Paper with a lavender mulberry bark paper give the work a unique aura. The image size is 8 inches high by 6 inches wide. Print is 11.25 inches wide by 15 inches high. The work was hand printed and published by the artist at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Please note that this etching is shipped to the collector without a frame or mat. This keeps the price low and allows the collector personal choice in matt selection and framing. A sturdy cardboard box is employed for shipping the work. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping carton and securely packed with bubble wrap. The Absolute Arts Dot Com price includes all handling costs, shipment supplies, and the coast of the shipment box. Mailing costs are added.
