Artwork Description:

This etched diptych, or a double plate etching, contains the studio techniques of intaglio, drypoint, and aquatint. I blended three different blacks of oil based, French etching ink and printed the image on RivesBFK white paper. I positioned two zinc plates with a small separation space between them on the press to produce this image. Each plate measures 5 inches wide by 4 inches high, or 12.700cm x 10.160cm. Print size is 11 inches high by 10 inches wide. This atmospheric architectural image was inspired by an albumin print entitled, Mont Saint Michel Abbey, Fortified Bridge in Church Courtyard, created in 1865 by the Neurdein Brothers. Moreover, the image reminded me of the paintings I executed in Madrid, 1990. In this etching, as in my paintings, I balance light and shadow with planes and line in order to create a vibrating stillness. This image is based on a photo from the Cornell University A. D. White Architectural Photographs Collection. Please note that this etching is shipped to the collector without a frame or mat. This keeps the price low and allows the collector personal choice in matt selection and framing. A sturdy cardboard box is employed for shipping the work. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping carton and securely packed with bubble wrap. The Absolute Arts Dot Com price includes all handling costs, shipment supplies, and the coast of the shipment box. Mailing costs are added. Key search words include stairways, steps, France, abbeys, Skybridge, Corbeling, courtyards, arched portal, le Mont Saint Michel, religious buildings, Fortification walls.
