Artists Describing Their Art:
Paul Machalaba - Paul Machalaba is a cutting edge artist specializing in large welded aluminum sculptures with a contemporary cast look. His pieces can be found coast to coast in private estates and in city centers at prominent corporate locations. Growing up in rural Vermont, but spending years in Florida, he is now well known for bringing a youthful fresh style to the northeast. Working from his studio in laid back Woodstock VT, he strives to find the perfect balance of motion and rigidity in a unique blend of sleek calligraphy inspired works with zero visable welds. His portfolio has a wide variety of styles that show a broad range of inspiration in different series, yet are easily identifiable as being from the same artist. He has been quoted as saying I love to explore different styles, from elegant to abstract graffiti. So many artists either have many different variations of designs that look the same, or no consistency. I feel that its the same with many rock bands on the radio. Some bands songs all kind of sound the same, but the legendary bands have a deep rooted consistency, yet every song is a completely new experience. I want all of my ...
Nikolaus Weiler - I am living and working as a freelance sculptor in Berlin since 1992. The main focus of my work is to create an independent sculpture in space . I use different materials for the expression of dynamics, motion and the revival in changed positions. ...
Amber Marley Padilla - A common thread runs though my work: themes of loss, protection, religion, tenderness, fragility, power and paradox. As I build my abstract tools, vessels and structures they begin to take on their own personality- some are sharp, some ridiculous, some failing, some untouchable. Their true purpose is often elusive. A bronze Fate Device, comfortably cradled, awaits its task tied too tightly to be moved, fate yet to be determined. A cart constructed of fragile reeds, guarded by a creature- or perhaps the cart guards the creature? Wife of Epimetheus entices one to peer into the slotted window, but the bronze lid prevents a closer look. The window has done its job--one need not lift the lid to release the contents. Nests, towers and snares explore ill-conceived intentions of protection. In Undetermined Danger, an unidentified object has been captured and bound to calm fear of the unknown. Snare with Attached Illusion is a fragile toy where one might become trapped in endless repetitions. Remains is a protective tower for ashes of an idea or soul. ...
Dmitrii Volkov - In my work I focus on combinations of volumes, patterns, colors or all together. They should interact, agree or disagree with each other. Listening to this conversation and forming this relationship are the most exciting things in art. Volumes often interact within a piece of art through crossing facets or absence of facets, polished planes and projecting parts as well as escape to the deep dark cavities and hollows. At times an object can be seen as a human, partially imperfect but constantly striving for perfection. I always treat objects and parts of objects as humans or groups of humans being unique individuals. My favorite material is carbon steel. It proves amazingly deep in case of natural treatment, i.e. waxing, polishing, and patination. It is oxidation ability that makes carbon steel far richer than precious metal in terms of its expressive properties. Traditionally, it is considered to be a disadvantage, yet indeed is a benefit due to the fact that kind of makes up for what the painter did not paint thus making a piece of art beautiful and expressive.
