  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Richard Olmstead - Influenced by my art, design, and architecture background of the 50's-60's many of my works incorporate a modern style. Creating good design out of materials that were readily available was and remains a priority. Form, function, and appearance are important considerations of my work, which includes: buildings, paintings, furniture, jewelry, lighting, sculpture, set design, pottery, custom automobiles, and other applications. I believe in paying careful attention to the slightest detail and striving for perfection. Applying skills, talent, and imagination to materials transforms them to art. ...

Jonathan Benitez - my art is a storytelling in visual form.my images are my attempt to extricate memories from my past experiences as a child.i live in a coastal community where the daily toils of the fisher folks are my sources of inspirations. beauty sometimes do not reconcile with certain aesthetics. but i found it in exploring realities, there is beauty in depicting the human conditions, the other side of happiness, the negative feelings as effected by pain and sufferings but unspoken.the best art in the world is not about happiness but its about depicting what happen to humanity. ...

Maria Teresa Fernandes - Admiring Teresa's paintings we are touched by her pictorial sensitivity. Difficult task in light colors (volume and transparencies on a clear basis). Few do it due to the required dedication with pallete knife(no brush). It's painting consacrated by the love to paint. Radha Abramo(Renowned art critique)comments at Solo Exhibition Catalog at SESC Paulista in June 84 -( sent at request and reproduced in one of the pages of this site). ...

Michelle Scott - Michelle Scott has been a visual artist since the 4th grade when her teacher introduced her to its "magic". She attended American River College in Sacramento and Art Center College of Design in Pasadena majoring in Illustration. Please visit her personal website at:

Luisa Cleaves Luisa F. V. Cleaves Gallery - Fine portraiture is a sacred tool for me since it reflects and honor the subject in deeper ways. Every portrait that I have painted has generated strong emotional responses. In their testimonials, people speak of how looking at themselves, their children,or family members in their portraits has empowered them and made them feel more beautiful. About The Artist... South American artist Luisa F. V. Cleaves is a native of Argentina. She studied at The Superior School of Fine Arts majoring in Sculpture and Painting. Luisa exhibited her artwork in galleries, hotels, libraries, and art associations in Argentina as well as the U.S. Her work has been praised by such well known Argentinian art critics Cesar Magrini from "El Cronista Comercial" and E.R. from "Clarin." Luisa illustrated the title page of the book "Imagine", an homage to Frida Kahlo by international women poets. She has been interviewed by local newspapers, radio, and T.V. program "Aqui" Her work is in private collections in South America, Central America, Europe, and the U.S. She's an award winning artist and a member of The American Society of Portrait Artists. ...

Leyla Munteanu - ARTIST'S STATEMENT Leyla Munteanu I have always felt a special connection with textural surfaces and the human figure. The beauty and strength in human features was a preferred subject in my work. Now I am focusing on the nostalgic. My love for the human figure has evolved into an interest in what they leave behind. Human marks left on objects and surfaces over time become more important than representation of the people who made the marks. I find my inspiration in immediate surroundings, and I hope that my work will lead the viewer to see the beauty that I see. First impressions are everything. Most often my depictions of those experiences are simply my way of saying "you should see what I saw!" Each piece has special meaning to me, which will not necessarily be the same meaning the viewer may attach to it. Art tells us something about ourselves and my work is the world as I see it, a world that brings back memories. I grew up in Bucharest Romania, a town marked by a long history; every place was worn by time or human nature. I'm still amazed by my memories of these places. All ...

Eve Thompson - "Painting is my way of expressing the joy of seeing. By organizing the play of contrasts and vivid colors, I can capture the feeling of intense sunlight. This moment of illumination is what I hope to convey to my viewers."...

Debra Lennox - My latest work explores the vibrant use of pure colors & composition to express an intangible, surreal quality of a place. Light, color and form combine to push the figurative subject into the realm of dreams, capturing a moment in between the frenzied pace of modern life, when time slows and we become open to other, magical and spiritual influences on our lives. I am a painter in many mediums * watercolor, acrylic, & oils, and collage. I live in Comptche, California, and travel often for inspiration. I use my architectural degree as a designer and draftsman on the Mendocino Coast. I am a member at the Artists' Co-op of Mendocino, where I sell original works, laser prints and art cards. My work can be viewed at dblennox.com or artgallerymendocino.com...

Pim Van Der Wel - Pim van der Wel (1950) combines the art of making watercolours with his work as a business economist. After lessons in all the basic drawing techniques by two Dutch painters in the periods 1980/1987 and 1994/1996 he specialised himself in watercolours. Watercolour offers hardly any limitations, so he can show what he likes and that is light and shadow in dents, creases and gloss etc. His objects are sports (mainly football), cans, torsos, animals (cows, sheep, dogs and chicken). In the last 10 years his work has been shown at (group-)exhibitions in the Netherlands. Some galleries have his works permanently in stock. ...

Leo De Freyne - Here is a quotation from the philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer (translation R J Holingdale): "We shall do best to think of life as a'desengano', as a process of disillusionment: since this is, clearly enough, what everything that happens to us is calculated to produce." ...
