  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Denise Seyhun - The glowing energy of waves and the foaming seas captivate my soul, and as a result my seascapes, waterfalls, and riverscapes bare witness to my love and admiration for the force and elegance of bodies of water. Main character in my oil paintings is water, which deeply fascinates me, not only as true beauty but also with its transparent colors reflecting in constant motion. As an artist my purpose is to accomplish the portrayal of the emotional tones and depths of shades of truth that are displayed in continuous movement. For this particular reason the unseen and untold dimensions that the undertones and the overtones of bodies of water allow me to experiment with a wide array of colors on my palette. Consequently, my goal is to never repeat myself in my artistic journey as I continue to play with many shades of reflections in water until I have compiled a finite collection of all shades of water....

Chris Jehn - I am primarily a self taught artist and have always felt creative. I worked my way through college by teaching crafts at an arts and crafts store, everything from embroidery and macrame to tole painting and pottery. I have taken numerous workshops from other practicing artists. Being with a group of other artists creates a synergy that inspires me. I now primarily work with acrylics and collage. I especially love intense color, and have made a study of color composition. One of the main reasons I live in Colorado is because almost everywhere you look there is something wonderful, and IaEURtmm compelled to try to paint what I see and feel. ...

Debra Bretton Robinson - Debra Bretton Robinson Artist Statement: My paintings are inspired by the beauty and complexity of landscape forms both real and imagined. I use the subject of landscape to explore the edge between abstraction and representation with an emphasis on the expressive use of color. I believe color is the soul of a painting, often reflecting the tension between what is known and what is felt. Like the Abstract Expressionists, I am inspired by the act of painting itself and by the sensual articulation of color and form. I prefer acrylics and collage because of their potential for flat shapes and washes of color. When painting, I weave thin outlines around graphic shapes in a gestural bravado, drawing from a palette of uninhibited colors. In the end, my paintings are a symphonic consonance of lustrous hues and expressive forms; a harmony of abstract marks and recognizable imagery. I paint in my studio as well as in the field, the scale of my work ranging from small studies to much larger canvases. The Fauves, as well as The Seven, have played important roles in the development of my style. Favorite artists include Henri Matisse, William Henry Johnson, Tommy Thompson, Lawren Harris, Fairfield ...

Avril Ward - Artist's statement. Creating has become an intricately woven part of my life. I must express nature, as it is my window to God. I must delight in the human body, a marvel that never ceases to amaze. I must express love and joy-this keeps them tangible in my life. I must trust my instincts and skills allowing them to lead me in the right direction. Most importantly: if my art can move a person to pause, think, smile, ponder, cry, laugh, be encouraged or give them hope, then I have served my purpose in life." Nicole Pereira - NICOLE PEREIRA Nicole Pereira is a young rising artist who started producing artwork at the young age of 4. Nicole noticed that she had a gift for art when her artwork was selected in her local public school and community art competitions. The local press also started raving about Nicoles work. With encouragement from her family and friends, Nicole now devotes all of her free time to paint abstract portraits that express her feelings and emotions. Originally, she started drawing realistic portraits of individuals and celebrities, but felt that she wanted to add more. By careful reinterpretation of the portrait, the use of broad brushstrokes and vivid colors, Nicole conveys her thoughts, feelings and emotion to the canvas to create unusual artwork. Nicole is just beginning to get recognition in the art world as a gifted and unique artist and her potential is unlimited....

Maria Klimek - My painting is an emotional mirror of my person which animates my plastic works. My art is a trigger of sensations and feelings that are intended to propose s universal language. In my creation I look for the harmony. Led by the graphics and colours, joy and freshness, I opt for geometrical forms. In my work, I am looking for a simple and well-balanced aesthetics allowing each of them to escape through a uniqueness and originality. The diverse materials, resin, papers, mats, the brightest, overlays, colours, tears are elements which, as strokes make exaggerated sign of my painting. I use a small palette of colours and besides paintings of buildings, products of the pharmaceutical industry, varnishes, lacures, inks and colours based on water. With all this I get some surprising encounters which facilitate the hatching of a work In other words, my research will be fruitful if the final receiver of my works is your glance....

Phil Mokaraka Berry - Ko Whakatere te Maunga Ko Waima te Awa Ko Maamari te Waka Ko Te Mahurehure te Hapu Ko Nga Puhi te Iwi Ko Tuhirangi te Marae Kia ora, Phil Mokaraka Berry has been producing Contemporary Maori Art works for over ten years. His work consists of Maori myths and traditions based on well known stories and beliefs. He has produced a large series on Maui and his exploits and his final demise. Other works involve the connection between Papatuanuku (mother earth) and Maori and the sacredness of our whenua (land). He has also produced works on Kaitiaki (guardians), trying to capture the Mauri (life force) and the guardianship role of them and the relationship to their and our environments. His works are always evolving, sometimes simplifying, sometimes complex He uses the kowhaiwhai (maori designs)as a symbol of being and celebrating being Maori and also linking back towards our/my Whakapapa (heritage). ...

Christine Alfery - My current thinking seems to be asking the age old question what is art Well - dont know why I say my current thinking - I have been asking that question ever since post modernism and all its relativity. Not only has art become part of the postmodern movement it has also become less precious because it seems everyone accepts the comments anyone can make art and its all about your own personal interpretation or how one sees things. I believe art, aesthetics, are all about personal interpretation. That does not make art relative and subjective. How can I say that Everyone is unique, all aEURoeartaEUR is unique. If an object is not unique, original, one of a kind, then it isnaEURtmt art. The idea, the concept, their uniqueness is art. Just like one person is unique to themselves, to their own individuality, aEURoeartaEUR is unique to itself and itaEURtms own individuality. It does not depend on collective thinking. NOT everyoneaEURtms ideas, concepts are art. Not every individual is an artist. They may create something that looks like art, it has a frame, it is in a gallery, the person who made it called themselves artists and their work ...
