  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Alberto Ruggieri - Ruggieri works in two main areas: as an advertising and editorial illustrator and a painter. For the last ten years his illustrations have been published regularly in most important Italian newspapers and magazines. Ruggieri also illustrates children's books and produces bespoke book covers for several leading publishing houses. His painting are mainly acrylic on canvas, other time mixed media or acrylic on paper; in the last years he use the computer also. Ruggieri's work has been highly commended in industry sponsored awards from all around the world for several years. ...

Julie Van Wyk - ARTIST STATEMENT I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED AND ADMIRED IMPRESIONIST PAINTERS OF THE PAST AND WANTED TO PAINT LIKE THEM. MY FAVORITE PAINTER IS CLAUDE MONET. I WORK IN WATERCOLOR,, ACRYLIC, OIL AND PASTEL. MY FAVORITE MEDIUM IS ACRYLIC. I LIKE TO PAINT QUICKLY SO THAT THE PAINTING RETAINS ITS FRESHNESS, AND ACRYLIC ALLOWS ME TO DO THIS ...

Evie Tirado - My journey as an artist began with my first crayon. I have always been in love with color. Over the years I've developed a passion for lines, forms, space, and the spaces between . Be it paint, inks, dyes, or watercolors, each media excites me. I experiment in diverse styles, allowing the subject, materials, and concepts, to influence the final outcome. My work is often a fusion of opposites -- chance and deliberation; remnants of the past link to the present; fluid pools of color, allowed to drip and layer and develop alongside the thick, structural impasto effects. For me, art is a necessity; a surrendering, a discovery, and a celebration. It transforms thoughts and ideals into dimensional realities beyond the flat surface. The interior process of abstraction suspends me from isolation, and connects me with my most authentic self,as well as the rest of humanity. ...

Daniel Wend - In my work, I've drawn from nature in visceral ways to explore my connection to the natural world. Art is yet another way of discovering new vistas and learning new things about places familiar. Much of my current work is done in oil pastel, which I prefer for thier brilliance and versatility (I use them on a wide variety of surfaces). Oil pastels also allow me to weave back and forth between the disciplines of painting and illustrating. I use up to 10 different types of oil pastel in some of my paintings, because of the variations in softness, opacity or color selection that allows me to build, transform and evolve a work....

Bryce Brown - Brown focuses on simple moments of New Zealand life and reflects these scenes through his paintings with an earthy quality. i?1/2I feel compelled to make figurative paintings, to capture subtle movement and gestures and to evoke positive emotion through certain poise. I am always looking for images and movement to find strong line, usually working the image to a point where I have simplified and heightened the figure at the same time.i?1/2 Brown has paintings in collections in New Zealand, Australia, Europe and the USA. Claudette Losier - Artistic Statement - Claudette Losier (LosiersArt) "Where Beauty Lies " "The artist knows that even though he has created something beautiful, it can be destroyed. His real and innermost satisfaction is not in the object, but in the subject; that thing within him that penetrates the mystic splendor of Beauty itself." (Ernest Holmes pg 39) One of my bodies of work explores the concept of Paradise as something sought after by modern society. My search centres on gardens--as near as our own backyard and as far away as other continents or the imaginary garden in our consciousness. It has been stated that each garden reflects our longing for spiritual peace--a tie with our primeordal beginnings. It is in the beauty of nature where I find this spiritual peace from a homemade garden to a formal garden, from a tree to the vastness of Grand Canyon, from a rocky coast line to the calmness of a man made pond. In Dr. Wayne Dyer's book "Power of Intention" he quotes from Emily Dickson and John Keats(pg 51): "Beauty is not caused. It is " As you awaken to your divine nature, you'll begin to appreciate beauty in everything you see, ...

Dariya Afanaseva - All my works are dedicated to the themes of relationship and sensation translated on a language of painting. For example, relationship between people. Relationships human about him/her self and to outward things. And some of my works are about memories and thoughts. And also it is interesting for me to reproduce an eluding moment, an impression in a matter of seconds, fragments of life. Just because everything depends on nuance. Three main styles I work in are abstractionism, expressionism and a bit of pop-art. But these styles are not just as they are, it`s always a combination of them. Some of my Abstract works represent things that aren't visual, such an emotion, mood, feeling, sound and so on. These works are very association. My figurative abstractions are simplifications of reality, where detail is eliminated from recognisable objects leaving only the essence or some degree of recognizable form. Some works are expressive. I just let my intuition guide me. Not to thinking, not to be doubt of anything. It is about trusting the process and setting free the instincts. And also I like decorativeness and beauty of coloring. My choice of medium are acrylic and mixed media ...

Phil Mokaraka Berry - Ko Whakatere te Maunga Ko Waima te Awa Ko Maamari te Waka Ko Te Mahurehure te Hapu Ko Nga Puhi te Iwi Ko Tuhirangi te Marae Kia ora, Phil Mokaraka Berry has been producing Contemporary Maori Art works for over ten years.
