  • Artists Describing Their Art:

David Cuffari - I approach my work as a visual poem. Sometimes the meaning is simple and direct and other times it's more complex. I prefer to create work that is open-ended allowing the viewer their own interpretation of what I present. I am primarily a painter preferring to work in acrylics as it allows me to make rapid revisions which helps keep the work fresh and immediate. The over-arching theme of my artwork is the human condition. I see the fabric of life as woven in opposites. By employing dualities like order/chaos, rough/smooth textures, themes of life/death, controlled effects/happy accidents, rational/irrational imagery, I try to paint interesting pictures that allow the viewer to see the world a bit differently. I am also interested in the notion of time. I don't believe that time is linear but more like an echo. I try to avoid static imagery preferring to create a complex painting that unfolds as you look at it, with layers of imagery and meaning. I do this by preserving the process of editing and revision as I arrive at the final image. Most recently I've been proceeding without a pre-conceived ...

Pham Kien Giang - Please patiently listen to! People often say the artists paint by their eyes, but I - myself do not understand why I paint by my ears. I often sit alone, close my eyes and listen to the sound from the life, from the memory, listen to the echo from somewhere "The wind from somewhere is same to the echo of time immemorial My way I am walking has imprinted a lot of the people . The blades of grass, foot of the trees are quivering as talking together The rustle of the storks in the sky is same to calling for the freedom " Suddenly, I am aware of something which . Daniela Isache - Expressionism is my way to show the world as I see it. Since I was young, I looked at the world differently from my friends. I saw a strange world, wondering why the other people did not see it like me. The world I saw was unjust and made of unhappiness. Looking profoundly at the people's faces, I found them very expressive and I was stroked by their strange traits. I have never seen beautiful or ugly faces but only very expressive ones. Then, I began to paint these faces and I met my future love - Expressionism. At that time, I discovered and understood that the expressionist painting could express the life as I see it. I applied my Expressionism without making any concession to the beautiful or decorative painting. I applied it with force and sometimes with despair. However, when finishing a painting I felt released. I felt as if all my pain and troubles came out of my life. The dramatic motifs I found in everyday life created insurmountable interrogations and tensions. I became calm, but when I looked at my painting, I saw there fear, sorrow and I understood that my Expressionism saved me. Some people ...

Seidai Tamura - I dedicate my life to realism, a representational rendition in oil. I am specialized in female nude works. Recently, Ive diverged into an erotic genre along with traditional, academic nudes. Due to controversial contents, I am not able to show my erotic pieces. Please message me, if you are interested to see my erotic works. They sell fast among collectors, but some are still available for purchase. Dana Zivanovits - Dana Zivanovits was born in 1958 in Columbus, Ohio and received his art training from the Columbus College of Art and Design (1978 to 1982). After art school, he went abroad for a year and studied the art of the old masters in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome and Venice. Returning to his studio in Columbus to develop these influences into a new body of work, he then traveled to Mexico and studied the sculpture and painting of that country for an extended period. The unique and vivid colors of Palenque and Vera Cruz intensified his palette. After a period in Ohio, he then moved to Venice Beach, California where the brilliant light of the region reinforced his desire to capture effects of sunlight and atmosphere. Returning to Ohio in 1995, he has continued to paint themes deriving inspiration form sources such as world mythology, classic and B-grade cinema, literature and dreams. However his primary inspiration is direct observation from nature, versus an approach based in art theories or cultural critique. Dana has been widely represented by galleries and exhibition projects including Julie Rico and Mega Boom in Los Angeles, the Venice Art Detour, Around the Coyote Festival in Chicago ...

Stepan Koren - Born: Moscow, 1950 Education: Moscow Conservatory (cello), 1968-1973; High School of Applied Arts named after Mukbina, S-Petersburg, 1978-1983 Specialty: paintings, graphics, ceramics Member of the Union of Addicts of the Russian Federation and of the International Artists Foundation Residence: Moscow ...

Antoaneta Hillman - Whatever lies beneath my desire to paint, I am thankful that it exists and gives my life direction. LeonardoOs words, that painting is a poetry that is seen rather than heart, are reflected in my attitude towards painting. I put the continuity of the idea, the new image of form and the transformation of reality in to a new world at the start of every work. Shagall, Van Gogh, Dali and Klimt, are the artists that have a major influence on me. I can say that admiration of the great artists is the first step on the road to art. To me, people who understand and enjoy art are blessed to be a part of an artistOs happines and sorrow, to share his ideas and thoughts. I am saving my dreams on canvas for them. When these dreams become paintings they donOt belong to me anymore. They are my messengers. To find the poetry, decode the color. ...

Dusanka Badovinac - My art is me, everything I see or feel. Creating balance in power and sensitivity in my art is my never ending challenge. My goal is always to capture the feeling, to feel it intense and share it with others. The joy and passion for art I am sharing nowadays with my students and that became my new source of inspiration. ...

Vanessa Bernal - Artist's statement: My earliest childhood memories are those of painting with my grandfather and frequently visiting the Art Institute of Chicago where we would spend countless hours together. He taught me that everything we come in contact with has the potential of becoming a work of art. My grandfather and I would take walks together to hunt for "treasures" of discarded objects that later he would turn into beautiful collages and assemblages. It is those lessons I carry with me and -today- in my work I see his influence. I have never been comfortable with expressing myself verbally. I am not one to strike up a conversation with a stranger, nor do I feel comfortable speaking to a group of people. Visual expression comes naturally to me; it is through this means I can best communicate with others and feel the most comfortable. At a young age I became aware of the injustices being perpetrated in the world and was deeply disenchanted with the political process as a means of creating effective change in our global community. For me, becoming an artist was inevitable. Through the visual arts not only did I communicate my life's passions, my fears, ...

Sonja Kobrehel - My work in visual arts reflects the constant changes and experiences in my personal life. I am guided by my feelings, thoughts, dreams and visions. The sources of my inspiration are many: an appreciation for personalities and the human scale: in particular, I love to look for traces of people who came before and clues about what they did there and why. Journeys are an integral part of my artistic inspiration. The Mediterranean and Adriatic atmosphere that pervades my work comes from the summers I spent on the French and Adriatic coasts.I am always intrigued by the human cultural elements and visual stimulation that I encounter.I find that every place and culture reveals its beauty to me though everyday life. I like to use symbols in my art work and while creating my personal iconography. The symbols are clues to many aspects of my life, but my paintings usually start with a color idea, then evolve into compositions in which color is the primary subject. I work in collage, various media on paper and canvas, mixing everything possible together in a visual format for public display.Much attention is given to the surface texture by adding different materials, ...

Steve Miller - I have drawn and painted ever since I can remember. Pencil was always my favorite. I spent many hours as a child with a pencil and a piece of typing paper. In my late teens, I began to airbrush images on vans, motorcycle tanks, and T-Shirts. Later, I began creating illustrations for publications, and then on to creating graphics and animation on the computer for various companies/clients. Making a living seems to consume most of my time, but when things get slow or I find I have some extra time on my hands, the canvas seems to have an irresistible pull. One day a friend of mine, mentioned that he was going out and painting small plein air paintings. I told him I'd like to go along sometime. We set a time in the late spring a few years back and I borrowed an easel and we hit the Texas countryside. We painted 3 small paintings throughout the day and I loved it. It was such a relief to get away from the computer screen and play with color. Now I take my easel with me when ever I travel and paint every chance I get. Since ...

Kyle Johnston - i have been utilizing mixed media collage as format for the last twenty years. theme and subject are generally allowed to develop themselves as works progress. rarely do i pursue a work limited to a specific idea other than structure and material usage. collage as medium allows me to set moods and feeling within each work and develop subject independently of that point.the conveyance of subject as well as a formulation of emotion and spirit is a priority to me in my work.i feel my overall technique is basic and my goal is to create works that are of interest artistically and compelling in nature....

Nicole M. Mathieu - Difficult to talk about art as one should, first of all, feel it. What is more fantastic that listening to a piece of music, reading a novel or seeing an artwork which will transport you deeply inside. For me, Art is not a duplication of what one sees, it should transcend it. My portraits were done in this sense trying to transpose the invisible part of the model. In my recent oil paintings, I try to give sounds with colors which reflects life itself and will remind you of things that seem familiar. Last December 2011, I moved to a beautiful art studio in Paris (near Place d'Italie) and you are welcome to visit my atelier while on vacation. Please call me before at 00 33 (0)663528344 ...
