  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Barry Boobis - Musical Visions is a body of work devoted to all themes of Music. These themes traverse the worlds of jazz, dance, rock, nature, spirit, and beyond. These musical themes are explored in the universes of realism and abstract, often combining both at a level of Spirit. Having practiced Zen meditation I see all mediums of art as One, which is derived from the ancient Buddhist scriptures. My Greatgrandfather wrote the "Hatikvah," national anthem of Israel, and my father was a jazz piano player, as well as a commercial artist, so the genetic splicing is readily obvious. The heritage of music, as well as art and spirit informs the work, and I offer it as a form of celebration of heightened sensibility. Joyousness, rapture, and expression, not just existence! As artist- in- residence at the Bluenote jazz club in NYC, and a participant in the Newport Jazz Festival and the Saratoga Jazz Festival for many years, I have had the great opportunity to bring this work to lovers of music as well as art throughout the Eastern Seabord of the USA. I now welcome the opportunity to bring it to the world- at- large through absolutearts.com. Please celebrate with me! ...

    S. Josephine Weaver - WHY AN ARTIST? WHY A PAINTER? "Some gifts are not given: you are delivered to them, bound by chains of nerves and genes stronger than iron or steel, although unseen." "You never know the force that drives you wild to paint that sky, and that bird flying, and is never satisfied but maybe tomorrow..." From: To A Daughter with Artistic Talent - J. Peter Meinke ...

Douglas A. Kinsey - When looking at my work the viewer should consider them as configurations of spiritual geography. In this manner I refer them as "Interior/Exterior Landscapes". The primary blue shape will refer to geological forms found in geographical landscape. As such they mark unspoken borders much like a rock cairn would. This marking indicates a place of spiritual solace and point of reflection. My intention is to explore the subconscious symbols of an'interior' spiritual reality when consecrated by the borders of'external' physical reality. ...

Martin A Ettlinger - After many years doing graphic design as an art director, IOve returned to painting and photography. The immediacy of acrylic paint, combined with its quick drying are ideal for my style. Being a papermaker enables me to combine materials to achieve my visual goal. In the end, I strive for a lyrical, exciting visual statement...

Arnold Grace Jr - I cannot imagine what my life would be without the ability to express my inner-most thoughts, dreams and other realities in a visual manner. I express myself through acrylic and oil paintings, mostly on canvas medium. The urge to recreate and interpret my internal and external stimulants is primal and brings me much satisfaction. I do not limit myself to any particular style. However I do tend to paint in an impressionistic form, verging on surrealism, imaginative and figurative representation also. My designs are not complicated or over worked images, but are effective statements of my experiences, augmented by the use of brilliant shimmering color composed from a tight pallette of primary and secondary colors. My subjects are people scenes, landscapes, seascapes and whatever I am compelled to do....

Julie Van Wyk - ARTIST STATEMENT I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED AND ADMIRED IMPRESIONIST PAINTERS OF THE PAST AND WANTED TO PAINT LIKE THEM. MY FAVORITE PAINTER IS CLAUDE MONET. I WORK IN WATERCOLOR,, ACRYLIC, OIL AND PASTEL. MY FAVORITE MEDIUM IS ACRYLIC. I LIKE TO PAINT QUICKLY SO THAT THE PAINTING RETAINS ITS FRESHNESS, AND ACRYLIC ALLOWS ME TO DO THIS ...

Ingemar Hardelin - Prior to my exhibitions I have ever wondered what really is relevant to point out. Generally I would not say much because my basic position is that the paintings may speak for themself. They live their own lives behind the words. But something overall may be said after all. I choose to summarize most of my production under the term "motion". Since I througout adult life has been a performing cellist on the side of my civilian profession, has music in mostly been a driving force and inspiration. Music is movement, and movement is an expression of life. In the same way I experience my painting. In colors is life, music, rhythm. In colors and forms are everything we recognize, but in addition there are infinite opportunities for new discoveries and experiences. We may be affected, seduced, upset and make voyages of discovery in constant dialogue with what we see. Seeing a picture is like hearing a peace of music over and over again. The experience will never be the same. Most of the time I paint from inner visions where freedom, imagination, rhythm, form and balance are important keywords. Thus, the same criteria that characterize music. The result is...

    Sandee Armstrong-Smith - A Canadian Artist - Sandee A (Smith-Armstrong)

Jerry Sauls - As I see it, the challenge to me as an artist, is not only to paint nature in all her glory and diversity, but also to capture the emotion a scene evokes and incorporate that emotion into the mixing of paint on my palette and into my brushstrokes as the paint is applied to the canvas. Detail, color and texture are as important to my work, as light and the elements are to nature. When planning a new work of art, I like to think about something I have experienced, and how the image can be influenced by natural elements like light and weather. Often, I will begin working with a particular image in my mind, and as I progress, wonderful things seem to happen, transforming my visual image as it is passed onto the canvas. As a result, the completed work is sometimes very different from my original vision. ...
