Artists Describing Their Art:
Joseph Mclaughlin - the main feature of my work whether or it is figurative or landscape is always, light. The play of light on any subject changes the mood of the work and how the viewer percieves the narrative contained within the work. I love oils and will build up colours and layers to increase the atmosphere to try to bring the viewer into the work and interpret it in thier own way....
Alain Nicolet - Alain Nicolet was born in 1951. He works on painting since 1977 and had a lot of exhibitions in France Switzerland, USA, etc. His work is like a long way to understand what painting, life, time or memory could mean. This painting asks questions, doesn't show final answers and try to find a way to ask more and more, and better...... Pegasus Gallery - The Gallery Pegasus The Gallery Pegasus was opened in 1989 by Vera Ennis and Pat Ramsay. This was the brainchild of a former General Manager of the Pegasus Hotel, who approached Pat Ramsay, who was then the Curator of the Mutual Life Gallery. From inception, the Gallery Pegasus has always promoted a standard of excellence worthy of its importance on the Jamaican Art scene. At all times we showcase the highest standard of Jamaican paintings and sculptures. The Gallery allows easy accessibility for both local and foreign artists to exhibit their works, as they seek to revolutionise the way forward in the arts. The Gallery continues to discover emerging Artists and promote established Artists. The Gallery Pegasus opened its doors with a cutting edge because of its ideal location. It is located in the lower lobby of the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel which is one of the most popular Hotels in New Kingston. This of course naturally lends itself to more viewers and potential buyers, making us one of the preferred choices. ...
Jeffrey Dickinson - My work revolves around the figure. Most is drawn directly from a model in a studio setting. Although that sounds simple anyone who has attempted it knows it takes years of practice and effort to produce something worthwhile. I am constantly working towards improving my drawing skills. A few years ago I began doing quick watercolors over my pencil drawings. I like the spontaneity and immediacy achieved in this way. I also paint in oils and acrylics. These paintings are much more planned out and carefully executed. Although the subject matter is often surreal or narrative they still have as there basis a realistically drawn figure. ...

Ingemar Hardelin - Prior to my exhibitions I have ever wondered what really is relevant to point out. Generally I would not say much because my basic position is that the paintings may speak for themself. They live their own lives behind the words. But something overall may be said after all. I choose to summarize most of my production under the term "motion". Since I througout adult life has been a performing cellist on the side of my civilian profession, has music in mostly been a driving force and inspiration. Music is movement, and movement is an expression of life. In the same way I experience my painting. In colors is life, music, rhythm. In colors and forms are everything we recognize, but in addition there are infinite opportunities for new discoveries and experiences. We may be affected, seduced, upset and make voyages of discovery in constant dialogue with what we see. Seeing a picture is like hearing a peace of music over and over again. The experience will never be the same. Most of the time I paint from inner visions where freedom, imagination, rhythm, form and balance are important keywords. Thus, the same criteria that characterize music. The result is...
Robert Tittle - I like to experiment with different surfaces, such as painting on burlap, I like the challenge of painting clean edges on the rough, bumpy and fuzzy surface. My creations have led some viewers to described them as having characteristics of romanticism. My desire is to stimulate emotions and imaginations, to invoke curiosity in the viewer and create a feeling of being there in the location the painting depicts. I hope my paintings reveal my spiritual character, my faith in God, and the beauty of nature. I have been taught, when an artist puts creativity and spirituality into a painting, they will then have something to leave to the world. ...
