  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Ghassan Rached - I am a geoscientist. I paint, but painting is only a hobby. I paint, whenever I can spare the time, what is relaxing, touches my heart and pleasant to me for enjoyment. I love to use oil and watercolor as media to express beauty. Comments of visitors would be appreciated....

Paul Freeman - I am an artist working in ceramic and metal on a small scale of size. The works are lyrical and convey an interest in the benevolent character of human beings. The morality of the represented people conveys a feeling of pleasant engagement. I am inspired by people's everyday interactions, the good attitude that keeps society running. There is nothing that people of goodwill cannot resolve. I also paint and do computer art and have a degree in Master of Studio Art from Sydney College of the Arts (University of Sydney)....

Michael Pickett - I donaEURtmt know how IaEURtmm able to do all of this, but somewhere inside me I know that I stand out from the rest, IaEURtmm unique and have some powers that are beyond comprehension. I stay pretty much to myself and I feel like someone who is not from this planet and that there are differences that I readily perceive. All of this makes me self-conscious and also makes me more critical of myself. I judge and criticize myself a lot which I should not, but I do because I feel alienated at times. IaEURtmm vary humble and definitely not better than anyone else. I have so much to achieve, and thataEURtms why I take my own time to do so, there are times when I get irritated and agitated because of keeping a lot of expectations for myself, and when IaEURtmm not able to execute it, I feel low. However, I have to make sure that all these expectations are achievable, not impractical and unfeasible. As a result, I trust my intuition more which allows me to communicate with others. Self-expression and originality are also associated with me. There is a ...

Hope Brooks - I am often asked the question what is my work about which is a little like being asked what is life about because in art as in life each person must bring their own experience and provide their own answers. Quite simply my work is about life and the enigma that surrounds existence. I make reference to specific experiences or draw on visual reality to act as a frame to the broader content and people bring their own interpretations as well. When I began painting in the 60's I was focused on talking about natural phenomena that I found around me in Jamaica, such as the sea, the mountains, or the moon but I was also trying to find a language that expressed the essence of that place I called home. In 1980 I travelled to Baltimore USA and my visual surroundings changed completely. This city had none of the natural landscape but it had beautiful stained glass windows and during my year at the Maryland Institute I produced a large body of work called "Windows". This included prints as well as paintings of the secular as well as the ecclesiastical windows. Someone looking at the work once said ...

Noel Stavropoulos - There is great power being an artist. They have influenced and recorded every culture's histories. Much of our knowledge of ancient and modern history today is taken from artifacts (art-i-facts). To have the ability to translate the growth of our civilization today is a gift. I want to give future generations tangible evidence from their history to contemplate and compare to the world we built for them, all the good times as well as the bad. They may learn from our mistakes and take the human race another step in the eternal journey of progression toward "Unity." I seek exhibitions in different countries and cities around the world. This allows me to see how wide, or limited my visual vocabulary really is. Not just from one cultural point of view, but from the masses of the Earth, the people. I then learn from the "Earth's Public" what ideas to expand or abandon. However, in the end, I am still the one who decides the direction of my works. When I create works I am conscious of the world around, so political and social undertone is imminent. I don't think about this while I'm working...

Judith Smith Wilson - Welcome to the world of exotic animals and culture as seen through the eyes of this extraordinary artist. Follow the mood as Ms. Wilson leads you to the darkest regions of Africa and beyond.....She has been specializing in Animal Wildlife Paintings and portraits of people for over 40 years. She is a will known animal ecologist, and belongs to many wildlife organizations, including the East African Wildlife Society. Ms. Wilson has traveled to Kenya East Africa, and Rwanda East Africa, three times. She also has had the privilege to observe the endangered Mountain Gorillas in the Virunga Mountains, and all of Africa's wonderful wildlife. Ms. Wilson has cared for many injured wild animals, eventually releasing them back to their native habitat. One of these animals, a bobcat named "Precious" was not able to be released, and remained a beloved friend to her family for over twenty years. Her work is currently being shown in San Diego, Los Angeles California and The Fine Art museum in Owensboro Kentucky. Also in Owensboro at'Gallery 412' and'Grey ...

Micha Nussinov - Nussinov's Statement Oct 2012 Drifting, being transient, in between various states of body/mind, like when we travel physically and with our imagination, as in a 'waking dream'. My work represents a world of ambiguity and illusion, of recognized and abstracted scenes embedded as a tapestry of matter, illustrating different relationships. Somewhere in the process of creating artworks these worlds are mixed in an harmonious and conflicting manner, representing the contradiction and collision between languages and landscapes. At all times the viewer is challenged to unfold the mystery, to explore and discover. The works of art are created not through a planned process but rather the starting point is an impulse, a visual or musical trigger. These signals lure the me into the unknown territories where my intuition and inner vision leads to spontaneous discoveries. As a teenager my box camera was an excuse to drift away from trouble, to capture in a photo something, that was at the same time ambiguous and exciting. As a cinematographer/ director of documentaries from1976 to1980 I was acknowledged as an acute observer of people and an highly experimental filmmaker. I have been working in various fields of the arts, consistently for the ...

Sir Mbonu Christopher Emerem - I conceive life and living in the context of our relationships with the sacred realm. Hence, my artworks and creative efforts place man at the center of function. With the combinations of Western and African motifs my arts are made to rouse the conscience of mankind, reclaim the human race, and restore humanity and the dignity of man. For my Paintings, I use acrylic, oil, watercolor, pencil and mixed media in the execution of my works. For my Digital Arts, I use computer and scanning technology and for my Sculptures, I use cement and fiber. I saturate my works with stunning and imposing sacrosanct by borrowing and using connotative images to show hidden force using themes that emphasize my sufferings as a struggling artist. For me carrying on the old conventions is not enough. Although I take them into account, I also seek inspiration from the life around me in order to make the traditions serve modern times. As life reveals to me its fresh meanings, I find it difficult not to reflect on them. All in all, I am either stimulated by my personal experiences of life or by environmental, touching, mind-purifying and life-consoling experiences to which...

Tamara Sorkin - I have always worked from organic subjects- plants, animals, or the human body, but usually I arrive at an abstract, "zoomorphic" description, that enables me a wider perspective. ...

Cornelia Macfadyen - CVMacFadyen, a native New York, studied art at the Art Student's League and Pratt Institute. Here she received a classical training with a heavy influence from the impressionists. CV's work is abstract expressionsist. Her paintings are rich in color and texture. Each painting evokes a different repsonse from it's viewer. The subtle changes in texture are color obscure images lurking in the background. Through her painting CV strives to touch each person. She reaches within to allow the viewer to have an experience of themselves. CV works in oil on canvas. All pictures are sized for the home. Oversized canvases maybe commissioned upon request. Her work is in private collections in the United States and Europe. CV has been exibiting her work exclusively in the New York area since 1976. She is mentioned in the World's Who Who of Women, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who of Professional & Executive Women. ...
