Artwork Description:
Heaven’s Gate is an abstract acrylic on canvas painting. This is a subconscious recreation of a glimpse of Heaven’s gate that I saw in a coma which I lapsed into in a football field accident in the early 1980s. The brilliant whites and other soothing glorious colours were uniquely embellished and simplified in a coded labyrinth of Divine force to create this peculiar painting. The labyrinth of lines is the metaphor on the trials and tribulations that line the road before one gets to the white space in the center, which is the colour entrance that links the mundane to the celestial in Yoruba colour symbolism. The huge beads stand for eternal beauty and aesthetics, while the soothing colours yellow, rose red pink, and violets , painted and drawn as well as incised lines and motifs are my unique expression of contended bliss and serenity. Words are not really efficient or sufficient to capture the emphatic glory of Heaven’s Gate.
