  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Micha Nussinov - NussinovaEURtms Statement Oct 2012 Drifting, being transient, in between various states of body/mind, like when we travel physically and with our imagination, as in a aEUR~waking dreamaEURtm. My work represents a world of ambiguity and illusion, of recognized and abstracted scenes embedded as a tapestry of matter, illustrating different relationships. Somewhere in the process of creating artworks these worlds are mixed in an harmonious and conflicting manner, representing the contradiction and collision between languages and landscapes. At all times the viewer is challenged to unfold the mystery, to explore and discover. The works of art are created not through a planned process but rather the starting point is an impulse, a visual or musical trigger. These signals lure the me into the unknown territories where my intuition and inner vision leads to spontaneous discoveries. As a teenager my box camera was an excuse to drift away from trouble, to capture in a photo something, that was at the same time ambiguous and exciting. As a cinematographer/ director of documentaries from1976 to1980 I was acknowledged as an acute observer of people and an highly experimental filmmaker. I have been working in various fields of the arts, consistently for the ...

Paula Durbin - Photography has always captured my spirit. It was only natural that my creative aEURoereleaseaEUR be expressed through the same medium. But, because I am a unique spirit, it had to have other levels of creativity aEUR" the photo itself just wasnaEURtmt enough. My first creative approach to photography was the use of the Polaroid transfer technique. My work consisted of subjects that are still close to me: animals and nature. The technique suited me well; it expresses the selected image seen and it allows me to further express its beauty with the softness of the technique. The watercolor paper used brings yet another dimension to the image. A search for the true expression in my photography led me to explore the techniques of the Fresson family of photographers. The Fresson technique, which culminates in the special care given the developmental process and the paper used, presented me the opportunity to express the richness of my photography. My work now moves beyond that aEUR~momentaEURtm and presents a depth and richness perhaps not otherwise felt. I am honored to be a part of the Fresson family. There are only a limited number of artists with whom I share this honor. Having gone ...

Rachel Schneider - Rachel Schneider is an American Photographer well received by the American artistic community. Ms. Schneider's works have been regularly exhibited in galleries throughout the state of Texas. Her academic credentials include 5 years of formal study at Sam Houston State University in Texas as well as training at the Texas School for Professional Photography. Ms. Schneider prefers to photograph in Black and White; however, she also uses color film. Her images yield a very different and crisp vantage point of life. A trained eye will find her images to be high in contrast and highly detailed. When photographing, Ms. Schneider contemplates every technical and artistic aspect of the image in her mind before she even considers pushing the shutter. She believes in finding the subject, determining the tonal values, then taking the picture that completely utilizes the negative's space. Ms. Schneider does not believe in wasting any silver on the negative, and therefore, does not crop her images during the printing process. Critics have noted that her photographic style has the characteristics of Straight Photography and Documentary Photography. Ms. Schneider's portfolio contains images from her travels around the United States, England, Singapore, Tokyo and Malaysia. Her passion ...

Nikica Cvrljak - Coming from a family of artists, I have painted since my childhood. One part of my work, both painting and photography, is inspired by the region where I live. It is coastal part of my country with its Mediterranean light. I usually paint in oil, pastels, watercolors and I do drawings in pencil. I do both color photography and black and white for which I still use film roles. I dont have a habit of explaining my work as I think that painting and photography are felt in a way that goes beyond language. Doing both painting and photography gives me a satisfaction. I think that every work of art which is honest and inspired can make this world a bit better. ...

Stephen Robinson - My name is Steve Robinson and have been a photographer in one way or another since college. During that lifetime, I have traveled the world with my camera, photographing and sharing with people who will never have the good fortune to see the wonderful places I have had the good fortune to see. Along the way, my photographers eye changed. My images quieted, and I began to see the world through a very different lens. I no longer sought out the ordinary places the tourists seemed to go, and I began to find the quiet corners of the world where ordinary people lived out their lives. My images are not so much about the people themselves, but more about the places they call home, or about the places near and dear to the heart. In the past, I have visited places like the Galapagos, the deserts of the American Southwest, the wilds of Bolivia, Ecuador, Ireland, Scotland, the timeless tracts of Turkey, and the quiet corners of Italy. I have done all this, and still more. Each of my images is its own story, a poem of color and shape, an expression of soul, a blending of place, seeing, and ...

Josephine Roberte - My creative process is full of passion and discovery. I become totally absorbed and only myself and the subject exist for I am in a meditative state. I paint, however, I do prefer photography as a medium as it suits my spontaneous nature. The lens captures the moment with exquisite precision that cannot be easily recaptured again. I am more interested in the concept and the impact of the image which gives the image more integrity and close to the original. To manipulate and enhance the image after its been taken does not excite me as much as capturing that magical moment. When I set up and arrange the scene I am consumed with styling, decorating and embellishing the subject. I see the human form as sculpture which extends to packaging, interiors and architecture. I am fascinated by the eccentric the marginal the most glamorous and the neglected bringing out their inner beauty, dignity and their story. The collaborative process creates a comfortable environment which in turn makes my models feel at ease and supportive of their particular wishes and needs. My models often make comments that they feel relaxed, liberated and empowered....
