Artwork Description:
Full Title is DURHAM WINTER SCENE IN TONAL DANCE. This original etching by printmaker Gerard Jerry DiFalco shows the location of a winter landscape in Durham, England. The scene features Durham Cathedral in the distance with a foreground of snow, a stream, clouds, bridges, and trees. The etching was inspired by an albumin print from 1865, which was gifted to Cornell University by Andrew Dickson White, where it is now part of The A. D. White Architectural Photographs Collection, Cornell University Library. DiFalco hand created and printed the artwork himself on a zinc etching plate and then printed it on RivesBFK white paper from France. The artist used French Charbonnel brand, oil based etching inks. Five separate baths in a nitric acid solution were required before the artist was satisfied with the plate. A Liquid Hard Ground from Paris was used to apply over the zinc. This work is from a very limited Edition of only five prints. The etching style is quite painterly as a result of the artists unique plate wiping and ink application techniques. The studio techniques for this work included intaglio, drypoint, and aquatint. The zinc plate size is 9 inches wide by 12 Inches High, or 22.860cm by 30.480cm. The hand torn paper size measures 15 inches wide by 17 inches high. The size given below is for the frame. THE PRICE INCLUDES A FRAME and MAT. THIS ETCHING SHIPPED IN A PROFESSIONAL CARDBOARD BOX PACKED WITH BUBBLE WRAP. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR ART ARRIVES WIRED AND HEADY TO HANG. A WALL HOOK AND NAIL ARE ALSO INCLUDED.
