Artwork Description:

THE TITLE IS, From a Photograph by Eugene Emanuel Viollet le Duc. This print is based on a photo from the Cornell University Library, The A. D. White Architectural Photographs Collection. The THREE editions of this hand-pulled etching limited to only TEN prints per edition uses the processes of INTAGLIO, AQUATINT, DRY POINT, and CHINE COLLE the oil-based printing ink employed is Charbonnel brand, manufactured in Paris. This first edition uses black ink on RivesBFK White printmaking paper. The process of Chine colle incorporates color into the etching by adhering hand dyed Mulberry Bark paper onto the print aftyer its treated with methyl cellulose. Emanuel Violette-le-Duc photographed this scene in 1865. It highlights many of the ornately sculpted gargoyles, animals and angels on the cathedral. The print size is 11 inches high, 28cm, by 15 inches wide, 38.1cm. I completed four pen and ink drawings of the photo to prepare for my original etching. All of these studies sold to the first collector to purchase one of the prints in this edition. This work has been exhibited in six shows in the USA. The work was hand printed and published by the artist at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Please note that this etching is shipped to the collector without a frame or mat. This keeps the price low and allows the collector personal choice in mat selection and framing. A sturdy cardboard box is employed for shipping the work. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping carton and securely packed with bubble wrap. The Absolute Arts Dot Com price includes all handling costs, shipment supplies, and the coast of the shipment box. Mailing costs are added.
