  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Max Tolentino - I do not think of art as a rationalization of an artistic thought or perhaps I am not still able to think this way. What fascinates me is the exercise of art; it is doing something that can express my personal point of view of things and the perception and the expression of the world as I see. Anything that carries human significance may cause me an emotion with the same intensity that I see at any museum in the world. Art is an emotional and intellectual product to me. Since my late starting in arts I have been sculpting my way in the artistic scenario with a differenced curiosity so that my overture to this environment gives me a privileged position. Doubts - no doubt - will arise, as my works transit between the formalism and the concept, between the beautiful and the political in art. But the doubts belong more to the one who sees then to me. Maybe I want to go further than the cultural concepts i?1/2 not that I pay much attention to it - but perhaps one day appreciating from outside I may glimpse a chance to be inside thus contributing in a certain way to this world ...

Gregory Liffick - I like to find new life in old, found items. I perform a kind of plastic or reconstructive surgery on the materials that I find in thrift stores and other like places, refinishing and refreshing their skin with spray enamel or acrylic paint and reforming and improving their shapes with bits and pieces from elsewhere. In the process of reimaging the items, I resurrect them from the past and bring them into the present, making them current and relevant through the concepts and messages I attach to them, commentaries on the state of things in the world today. I give new purpose and interest to items that have lost their place in the onrush of use and fashion. I take once upon a time materials and try to make them timeless....

Sal Villano - The inspiration for creating my sculpture grew from a lifetime love of trees. I am in awe of the stately presence and silent majesty they posses. I find the structure of trees to be one of the perfections in nature. With their roots embracing the earth; in winter they show their bones, in spring gentle buds, in summer a canopy of green and in fall a magical kaleidoscope of colors. Beauty, pure beauty. ...

David Rocky Aguirre - ************** To me, Art seems to be a universal language. It can be used to portray something beautiful and uplifting, or to portray a tragedy to motivate and move people to act. To motivate them to help in some way as in Picasso's "Guernica 1937". I have a wide range in creative interests, from most forms of painting- oil to watercolor and on to print forms, sculpture, photography, film and computer animation. Contact me for any creative projects you may have....

Stephanie Amos - ABSTRACTION IS AN ART ALL IN ITS OWN. NOT TO BE UNDERSTOOD BUT APPRECIATED. FOR ME IT COMES FROM DEEP DOWN, FROM THE HEART AND SOUL. IT IS MY WAY OF EXPRESSING MY EMOTIONS AND FEELINGS. THE BRUSH IS MY VOICE. THE PAINT ARE MY WORDS. COLOR, DEPTH, SPACE, COMPOSITION-THEY JUST APPEAR.~SAMOS I spent most of my secondary education in the art room. Any spare time that I had I was drawing, painting, or sculpting. Not much has changed over the years. After high school I went off to college. Gave it a shot and decided it wasn't for me. So I took off for the Bering Sea to become a commercial fisherman. I fished for about five years. After a knee injury I decided I was ready for school again. This time I knew what I wanted to do. Study art. I wanted to know everything there was to know. And so began the rebirth of my art. I work in three different mediums. I paint original abstract paintings on canvas using a brush and palette knife. I work mostly in oils, but am branching out with acrylics and mixed medias. I also create abstract figurative ...

Eric Fluckiger - "I want my work to thrill, be uncanny, weird. By alluring viewers with fascinating objects and images, I hope to engage a reflection on issues relating to the theme of transition in contemporary life. Finally, I am committed to creating sculptures and photographs which appeal to the viewers on an emotional, visual level." Education: *MA Fine Art from City & Guilds of London Art School (2004 - 2005) *Masters Degree in Mathematics from University of Geneva (1982 - 1988) ...

Adri A. C. De Fluiter - My work developed from textile sack like forms to 'wrapping sculptures' ( objects and installations created by wrapping stripes of textile around frames made out of branches, steel, etc.) till the temporary 'flames'. This form means to a symbol for the spiritual aspect in every human being. Goal of all my work is to make the unseen visual aspects of the total environment visible. In my latest installation 'Treeflames 2 - the border I visualize the 'flame' hidden in oak trees by enwrapping partly the crown. When you vist my artwork you will find it in this order: Sculpture (indoor, outdoor), Drawings, Icons, Paintings, Drawings for future site specific projects, executed site specific projects. Another part of my work is to act as curator for international art-in-nature projects. (Global Art Fund). For example in 2005: 'Art and nature walk The Legend' (www.natuurkunstdrenthe.nl) and 'Hidden Lanes' (www.cbkzeeland.nl) click 'verborgen lanen'. In 2006 'Art and nature walk Still Water'. In 2007 'Art and nature walk Green Revolution'. ...

Adri A. C. De Fluiter - Cheryl Ehmann - Originally from Michigan, I now live in Montana where I studied under master woodcarver, Dan Schnetter. I have always been interested in modeling a shape from either wood or clay. I worked in commercial art in Denver in 1978-1979 and began sculpting seriously in clay for the past 12 years. I have always had an intererst in the "Old West" and the diversified cultures that inhabited the plains. I study my subjects well and try to depict eye pleasing results and spirtual awareness in the sculptures I create. I sculpt with a realistic perspective. I hope to visually stimulate you to identify with each piece. To sense the pain, the joy and many journeys traveled. Look beyond lifes "template" - look into the soul! Feel the pride, the passion, the will to live! All of my sculptures are finely detailed so that you may feel the message of each piece. I shape, smooth and etch each line & contour to depict the proud, the fight, the playful. Each piece is then taken to the foundry, and under my supervision, cast in bronze with various tones of Patina to clarify and bring out the effect I am looking for. Each piece has ...

Karen Wassmer - Whispering Angels(r) Art Studio by: Karen J. Wassmer These wall relief angel sculptures are comiled from old china and kitchen wares. China plates serve as a body or sometimes a halo for the head which has either a hand painted shell or wood carvedface. Forks, spoons, and various utensils represent arms and legs. All of these objects that the sculpture is created out of are from found objects, recycled materials and hand crafted carvings, paintings and metal work. Old, vintage textiles are used for additional accessories. Formally a Land Surveyor I learned through researching property deeds where old homesteads used to dump their glass and metal, and for years I collected these and in conjunction with other discarded glassware, metal and wood I found Whispering Angels were born. Without any formal art education my work is inspired from my own experiences. What I hope my art work brings to the viewer is a smile, a bit of wonderment, and joy. Each sculpture is unique as the hearts and emotions of each viewer. My efforts are to give unwanted materials a rebirth that awakens the angel in all of us. Sincerely, Karen J. Wassmer, Professional Artist, (c) Whispering Angels(r) Art Studio, 2002...
