  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Avinash Shamdasani - Consciousness expresses itself through creation. This world we live in is the Art of the Creator. Artists come and go in the twinkling of an eye but the Art lives on. On many an occasion when I am creating art I have felt touch by something sacred. In those moments; I felt my spirit soar and become one with everything that exists. I become the stars and the moon. I become the Lover and the beloved. I become the victor and the vanquished. I become the master and the slave. I become the artist and the art. I become the knower and the known. I keep on creating Then it is the eternal art of creation. The creator and the creation merge into the wholeness of joy. I keep on creating And creating And creating Until there is only . The ART - Avinash Shamdasani ... ...

Tim Murphy - I began creating paintings with flying figures in 1993. This central theme has evolved and been expressed in many ways in my paintings. The flying figures represent both a dream state and the conscious state awareness of being present in the moment. These images play with the similarities and differences of the two states of mind and how both are valued experiences over the alternative unaware and thoughtless moments in our lives. I like to think of my paintings as subconscious mirrors and that the relationship between the viewer and my work is a personal one. I create narratives that are open ended and I allow my subconscious to wander freely as I paint. Consequently, the story lines evolve as I work on each piece. A painting may hold multiple meanings for the viewer and these meanings can change over time, as they do for me. I incorporate variations of traditional painting techniques that invite viewers to enter these alternate worlds and discover what these mirrors hold for them. - Tim S. Emil Matulewicz - A painting must be judged by what we see and feel. Sometimes this process takes place in a second, sometimes we need more time to experience and to enjoy it. My paintings are figurative. It took a long time to develop my own style which is not intentionally following a trend but is rather formed and recognized by my personality and life experience. A painting is not only an expression of the artist but also a way to enable others to taste the atmosphere and energy of a painting. For many years I am producing a variety of paintings. Portraits and still lifes form the main part of my portfolio. Flowers and ballet are examples which I paint in a typical and recognisable stroke. This stroke is often very strong. To keep this strength and power in his paintings I prefer to use acryl based paint. In general I choose a central theme, subject or person, this selection is emphasized by the background which only serves to complete the painting. In the paintings this gives a surprising approach of the object. I find inspiration in Monet, Manet, Degas and Van Gogh. I am working in Delft (Holland) where I have ...

Lou Lalli - The shaping and use of stone is a vital part of the human endeavor. The fashioning of tools and implements by stone age peoples, the votive Venus figures of the Neolithic period, cycladic sculpture of the eighth millennium BC, classical sculpture of Greece and Egypt and all the sculpture to the present indicates that stone sculpture is intrinsic to human expression. Sculpting in stone directly links me to the people of the past. The subject and ideas I choose are derived from the past thus strengthening that link. The resolutions of the technical problems are the same that sculptors in the past confronted and solved. Although modern tools and implements facilitate my work I am still doing what all sculptors and stone carvers have done in the past; chipping, abrading and polishing the stone to release the form contained therein. My ideas and subjects are borrowed from antiquity with each piece telling a story. Antiquity provides a wealth of resources for my work; warriors, the myths, Venus figures, beasts, demigods and shaman/priests are the subjects I appropriate. In executing an idea, the importance of light and shadow, through the use of negative space is a primary concern in the ...

Costanza Zappa - Costanza Zappa (www.costanza.net). ...

Daniel Janssens - "It is the woman's beauty and mystery that have made me paint and sculpt in the first place." The artist, who previously painted only one human figure per painting, has recently begun to represent several figures, and these figures are no longer exclusively women. In sculpture also, the single human figures of the beginning are gradually replaced by intertwined figures, that go by two, by couple, or even by trio or quartet. "Previously, it was the individual that questioned me. Now, increasingly, I paint and sculpt attitudes and relationships." Painting and sculpture are based on different relationships: that between the sculptor-painter and his painting or sculpture, that between colors and shapes, that between the spectator and the work of art, and finally, the possible relationship between the different spectators. "However, I have not become a narrative artist, even if the spectator can invent stories about the human figures they see depicted." - But why only one subject? - Because the more one concentrates on one - and only one - subject, the deeper one can go, and the more style and technique can speak freely. If one always seeks to change subjects, it becomes difficult to specialize in it." It is the...

Pamela Henry - I am a Photography Artist. My process crosses analog and digital borders. Initially my images are captured on film, slides or digitally. I use a range of techniques from cross-process development and polaroid manipulation to digital painting, collage and layering to create what you see here. If I were to condense my thoughts on photographic expression into a single phrase it would be "in the moment". The moment begins at first sight and is complete when I release the shutter, lift my stylo from the polaroid, or remove my hand from the mouse. I know I will relive that feeling each time I look at the image, like a song or a smell that transports you to another place and time. This photographic expression translates beyond verbal expression and rests in your being, invoking a subjective reaction based on your experiences. Herein lies a collection of such moments. ...

Tyler Alpern - I Most importantly, there should exist a beautiful work of art; but upon closer inspection, my imagery often reveals a surprising message in the guise of something far more tame. I strive to make exquisite paintings, but also use the canvas as place to share and document what I am thinking. It can be a daunting challenge to use a visual language to express my very wordy thoughts. Thus details are everything. Any small object in a piece can carry significant meaning. My paintings are frequently inspired by something unconventional and can be highly narrative or even fable like. I admire unusual people who had the courage to be themselves and follow their own star. The characters I use can be historical, fictional, celebrity or personal acquaintances; but they often possess a beauty unappreciated by mainstream culture or values. The story I might be telling is a departure point from which I craft an image. The painting should intrigue and delight the viewer regardless of whether the events or characters are recognized or not. The essence of the meaning should be decipherable even if the particulars are unknown. Once I select my subjects and compositions, what consumes nearly all of ...

Nicole Peņa - In many of my paintings I depict entranced individuals who are seduced into a musical and psychic celebration. A song lives within the space of my canvas enrapturing participants to sway to its vibrations and experience its sensual essence. In one painting a frenzied conga compels hips to gyrate and eyes to close while in another a gentle psalm inspires as it soothes the soul. In these works, rhythm liberates the body and frees the spirit by compelling the participants to combine sensual movements with soulful meditations....
