  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Bé Van Der Heide - Artist Statement I do work mostly in series. The images shown in my portfolio are examples of different series all executed over the last ten years. Some of the latest series such as "Dance of the transient forms" and "Collapse" have recently been exhibited in the Mas Poch Gallery in Spain. The most extensive series is called the "ENFANT TERRIBLE" series. These are drawings and paintings, mostly of a little girl and her family and friends. The rather menacing images of a seemingly helpless frightened little girl, being held tight or prettied up with bows in her hair, are inspired by photographs in my family album. In these drawings I am not interested in a photographic likeness, but I try to express a feeling about these people in the pictures. Part of the series were shown in the LCP Gallery in London during summer 2002 and in the Mas Poch Gallery in Spain November 2003. The series before "Enfant Terrible" is called: "WEBS", inspired by the sight of insects, leaves, dried up larvae; all caught in a Spiders web underneath a box on top of one of my work tables in the studio. They have been considerably enlarged; some paintings...

Jean Charles Dicharry - Pamela Henry - I am a Photography Artist. My process crosses analog and digital borders. Initially my images are captured on film, slides or digitally. I use a range of techniques from cross-process development and polaroid manipulation to digital painting, collage and layering to create what you see here. If I were to condense my thoughts on photographic expression into a single phrase it would be "in the moment". The moment begins at first sight and is complete when I release the shutter, lift my stylo from the polaroid, or remove my hand from the mouse. I know I will relive that feeling each time I look at the image, like a song or a smell that transports you to another place and time. This photographic expression translates beyond verbal expression and rests in your being, invoking a subjective reaction based on your experiences. Herein lies a collection of such moments. ...

Leif Mårdh - To paint has always been a challenge to me. My uncle was a painter and my father was a sculptor, carving in wood. I learned a lot from them. Although I was very indeterminate as a young how to express my- self on canvas and develop my painting, how to chose style and media. I was a great admirer of the expressionists as well as of surrealists like Salvador Dali. Still very unsure of where is my homeyard in the enormous cityblocks of art I let the brush be conducted by in- fluence of my emotions. Sometimes resulting in creatures with yelling faces in a mess of colours, sometimes in themes in abstemious reticence. ...

Sonja Svete - The form as a dwelling of human spirit. Primary medium: soft pastels on paper. Figurative-abstract transactions made in very controlled manner. Colors are very personal, drawing is cleaned of all unfunctional details. My first pastel series was born during last year of studying fine arts like the fastest way to catch the idea of form for latter printmaking. These were static human figures captured in circle form, representing complex emotions. I named that Series'Mater Magna' because of the obvious archetypes this forms represented. With time they lost that symbolic meaning and eventually become just abstract body fragments, with my interest more focused on the correlation between shapes and colours. With time that evolved in this last Series I named'Joie de Vivre' or just'Joy' (of Life). In the same technique and manner, these stylized figures are liberated of their symbolic meanings or complex psychological heritage. They now exist in the space of colors - they attend to just be in it and be it at the same time. Here all my previous endeavors evolved in unrecognizable, abstract forms expanding in space. Finally, feeling of the human spirit being set free. Secondary medium: acrylic painted reliefs in cardboard or ...

Zahava Sherez - Perfect Moment December 2009 My definition of a Perfect Moment: when two entities, be they human, object, animal, or nature, are able to hold on to their inner core, to the integrity of their identity, yet find a place of connection where they mold to each other creating mutual support. Why vessels? I have been attracted to vessels since an early age. I grew up in a country where archeology is everywhere, where holding a piece of clay from a broken vessel awakens the imagination. Who was that person that created that container hundreds or thousands of years ago? What was stored in this vessel? Food, coins, stories? What secrets? To me vessels are a metaphor for anything that contains a treasure, be it tangible or emotional, spiritual. Here are two entities captured in a perfect moment of connection sharing, if only for that brief moment, their inner treasures. Technique I work with clay as a carver. I mix various clays, of different textures and colors, to achieve the look of an archeological vessel that has been reassembled. I begin with a solid mound of clay and use my body, a mallet and knives to rough the form. When I'...

James Melbourne - James Melbourne Art is all about Illusion. The painting itself is artificial. My work is an expression of A reality of the concrete world that exists outside the art object itself. What interests me is the seperation between the real and the unreal.the objective and the nonobjective.I began my career as an abstact artist.I enjoy the painterly qualities of Abstactionismn I also like the use accident and chance. The paint itself expresses my experiences in life ...

Alexandre Nodopaka - 1. To portray ideas in a fresh style, but most important I was Born for Art, I Live for Art and will die for Art. 2. Abstraction in art is the greatest spiritual meditation & an ideal cerebral masturbation. 3. Photography killed representational art some 150 years ago. The computer killed abstract art. Today, thousands abstracts can be created in a day, they may be worth a thousand words but not a penny! 1.
