  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Blanca Ruth Casanova - "My paintings are intellectual and emotional reflections of my life as a woman. The act of painting is what motivates me. Textures, impastos or drippings are expressing events in my life as I compare my own life to Mexican traditions. Geometric, Figurative, Abstract or Expressionistic paintings emerge while I play with colors, textures, found objects and forms as life plays with me."...

K Van Zwol - From the wreckage of the post-industrial wasteland NEW VISIONS! The intersection of art and anti art and anti anti art A META REALITY! The means of apprehension beyond: object/ subject ...(FALLACIES) A flurry of images, torrents of symbolism, The Clash of Modalities, won A thread running through the ALL the Amerikin nightmares, (transformed) THIS IS THE NEW LANGUAGE OF DREAMS....

Leyla Munteanu - ARTIST'S STATEMENT Leyla Munteanu I have always felt a special connection with textural surfaces and the human figure. The beauty and strength in human features was a preferred subject in my work. Now I am focusing on the nostalgic. My love for the human figure has evolved into an interest in what they leave behind. Human marks left on objects and surfaces over time become more important than representation of the people who made the marks. I find my inspiration in immediate surroundings, and I hope that my work will lead the viewer to see the beauty that I see. First impressions are everything. Most often my depictions of those experiences are simply my way of saying "you should see what I saw!" Each piece has special meaning to me, which will not necessarily be the same meaning the viewer may attach to it. Art tells us something about ourselves and my work is the world as I see it, a world that brings back memories. I grew up in Bucharest Romania, a town marked by a long history; every place was worn by time or human nature. I'm still amazed by my memories of these places. All ...

Diane Kastensmith Bradbury - I love the spontaneity and freshness of watercolor - especially the "accidental" movement of color that results from painting wet into wet. I usually start with a wet into wet technique, and work through all the stages of the paper, until I am painting wet into dry. I often soak the painting in the bathtub overnight to soften the edges and lighten the colors, going back in the next day to sharpen details and brighten or darken colors where needed. I repeat this process until I can see that the painting is finished. I believe the record for the number of times this was done was a painting I sold in 1985, called "Blue Tree". It had been soaked twenty-two times before I was satisfied with the result. Of course, high quality paint and paper are essential to this process. "Seasons ...

Dimitri Lazaroff - Like most artists, I work with non-verbal medium - drawing, painting, sculpture etc. - that attempt to convey things which cannot be even remotely described in words. And thats the trouble when being asked to write an artists statement. How one explains that heshe is trying to communicate the unexplainable, things that transcend verbalizing, aspects of existence or glimpses into certain conditions, the occasional insights Artists statements are not really feasible and are bound to be misleading....

Daniel Wasinger - In my youth, I was always mesmerized by nature and the visual ironies with which it presented itself. There is nothing so pure and powerful as nature. The contradictions in its color palette, along with its subtle nuances, enhanced my senses and impressed me. It is those very impressions that have influenced my work. All of my art is original and influenced by nature and the human form. Whether I digitally manipulate my original photographs or begin with a brush and mix unconventional media to reinforce nature's contradictions, I always tend to focus on the irony of it all. That is nature's true character and I strive to capture it, hoping to heighten the viewer's senses. My expressionistic view helps me communicate my feelings and interpretations. By using deliberate, thick impasto oil techniques, the delicate stroke of watercolor and oil pastel, or the contradictory combination of resin and organic material, I seek to convey the true character of each work until it absorbs a life of its own. The relationships of the elements of nature are so intertwined and I am influenced by this simple complexity and raw beauty. I bring this quality into my work through ...

Janice Young - I work in multiple mediums. When I get an idea, I think, how can I express this visually. Sometimes the medium is the inspiration. I reuse materials from demolition, use leftovers from construction, gather raw materials from nature, and experiment with commercially produced materials. I have a drive to create. I would like what I create to provoke thought as to the beauty and importance of all life and the effect our massive appetites have on that life. ...

Kattalina M Kazunas - A simple definition of alchemy is "the transmutation of base metal into gold." This is the definition most people would recognize. Another definition of alchemy, and the one that I prefer is, "the Royal Art of living consciously." My fascination with alchemy parallels my fascination with the mysteries of the natural world. The world of alchemy, like life, is filled with secret languages, symbols, and magical substances, that only begin to make sense when we give them focused attention. I am equally fascinated by the transformative effect on consciousness that happens through the creation, use, and study of symbols. Symbols become keys that unlock the mysteries of a soul's inner architecture, as well as the secrets of alchemical processes and transformations. This series of eight broadsides is my interpretation of ancient alchemical maxims written hundreds of years ago by Hermes Trismegistus, Paracelsus, and other alchemists, that still hold true today. A combination of vintage techniques was used in their creation: letterpress printing, indigo vat dying, iron oxide, and gold pigment....

Paul Gazda - These works are from my "Household Icons" series. In this series, I transform discarded household objects into art by mounting them on wire mesh and painting them with a variety of acrylic mediums. These works are fun, but at the same time draw attention to the things we take for granted in our daily lives. I also have a "Concept" and "Didactic" series. Please visit my web site to see the full spectrum of my work. ...
