Artists Describing Their Art:
Pauline Allen - My name is Pauline Allen. I have been working with mosaics for over 20 years alongside my professional career. People often comment on the detail in my work and the colours. On many occasions I have been asked if I sell my work and people have been amazed when I have said no. When I reached 60 I decided to make a change to my career path and follow a long held ambition to work exclusively with mosaics. The inspiration for my artwork comes from everyday observations and my love of wildlife, trees, gardens and places of beauty in my home county of Northumberland, England. I work with a wide range of coloured ceramic tiles which enables me to express my myself through my art. Every piece of my work is different because it is hand built, detailed, colourful and evokes interest as the eye explores the hidden depths within the art. Working with mosaics is extremely time consuming art form but for me it is a labour of love. I work with mosaics almost every day in my studio and will not release any piece until I am entirely satisfied with it. With every piece of artwork I make, ...
Diana Donici - Donart workshop came out of passion, the main ingredient for every succesfull activity. For us, the mosaic is the most fascinating part of all plastic arts: first of all, for its unicity and complexity, then for its resistance in time and never getting old-fashioned. And the last but not the least, for the huge passion that comes out of the mosaic artist during dozens or even hundreds of hours of work for a single project. At Donart workshop, we mainly use colored glass for making mosaics, for its proved higher standards compared to ceramic. For sacred themes, such as icons and mural mosaics, we insert pure gold, most of it of 24K. We are specialised in sacred mosaic, but we are glad to work any artistic theme.
