  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Eric Garingalao - "Eric Garingalao is one of the new breed of Ilonggo artists whose art embraces the "absolute individualism" dogma. His works are devoid of pretensions. He perceives art as an honest personal conveyance without adversities and distractions from the outside. Experimenting on various mediums, he transforms the mundane into an interesting permutation of genres that deals with the restlessness of the body and the concepts and revolutions of the mind. His collages and abstract orchestrations are re-inscriptions of themes into new context manifesting gestural languages that shocks and provokes but are seductively intimate to the modern eyes. by: Ric Gindap...

Emil Matulewicz - A painting must be judged by what we see and feel. Sometimes this process takes place in a second, sometimes we need more time to experience and to enjoy it. My paintings are figurative. It took a long time to develop my own style which is not intentionally following a trend but is rather formed and recognized by my personality and life experience. A painting is not only an expression of the artist but also a way to enable others to taste the atmosphere and energy of a painting. For many years I am producing a variety of paintings. Portraits and still lifes form the main part of my portfolio. Flowers and ballet are examples which I paint in a typical and recognisable stroke. This stroke is often very strong. To keep this strength and power in his paintings I prefer to use acryl based paint. In general I choose a central theme, subject or person, this selection is emphasized by the background which only serves to complete the painting. In the paintings this gives a surprising approach of the object. I find inspiration in Monet, Manet, Degas and Van Gogh. I am working in Delft (Holland) where I have ...

Hongvan Ng - A VISION COMES FROM A POINT WHERE THE IDEAS START. Painting is a powerful language in which I express myself and communicate. The message within each painting is an illustrated element or aspect of my life. I paint the moments that capture me, the beautiful and the painful for the exquisiteness of any moment can make me cry, and then I paint. Sketching and drawing are tools of my vocabulary with which I discover and reveal my thoughts and feelings, and when I forget that I am making art, when I am purely communicating, I am free. ...

Hongvan Ng - Constantine Cionca - Constantine Cionca (1955, Romanian born, United States) is an artist who works in a variety of media. On his conceptual digital work Cionca tries to approach a wide scale of subjects in a multi-layered way that generates diverse meanings. By studying sign processes, signification and communication, he creates intense personal moments masterfully created by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal. This results in the fact that the artist can easily imagine an own interpretation without being hindered by the historical reality. &...

Tyler Alpern - I Most importantly, there should exist a beautiful work of art; but upon closer inspection, my imagery often reveals a surprising message in the guise of something far more tame. I strive to make exquisite paintings, but also use the canvas as place to share and document what I am thinking. It can be a daunting challenge to use a visual language to express my very wordy thoughts. Thus details are everything. Any small object in a piece can carry significant meaning. My paintings are frequently inspired by something unconventional and can be highly narrative or even fable like. I admire unusual people who had the courage to be themselves and follow their own star. The characters I use can be historical, fictional, celebrity or personal acquaintances; but they often possess a beauty unappreciated by mainstream culture or values. The story I might be telling is a departure point from which I craft an image. The painting should intrigue and delight the viewer regardless of whether the events or characters are recognized or not. The essence of the meaning should be decipherable even if the particulars are unknown. Once I select my subjects and compositions, what consumes nearly all of ...

Lynette Vought - I heard a writer say once that how we experience life is an illusion and that the purpose of art is to uncover reality. Indeed, reality seems quite like a set of unturned cards, and I'm not sure we can define it until after our hand has been played. The best solution I have found is to fray the edges of the illusion a bit by bending the laws that everyone knows. In my work people can fly, plants and people merge, women wear snorkels while making love. For me, these images hint at reality, opening a back door to the underlying truth of what I see and experience. By rendering things in a magical light, the illusion starts to give way to the real in the same way that madness sometimes serves to define sanity. Formally, my work is much more practical. I make paintings, drawings and intaglio prints based on my drawings. The prints are a mixture of old and new processes; instead of etching the plates in acid, my prints are made with photosensitive plates. I enjoy the control this process gives me over the final image. Thank you for visiting my site! --Lynette Vought ...

Chris Gould - Never the studious young boy, I spent most of my class time drawing sketches in the pages of my notebooks. Santa Anna, raising his sword in the battle for the Alamo buried deep within my notebook jumped out and attacked my father one evening while he help me with my homework. He counter attacked by hurling, "you will never be anything doing stuff like this", and I believed him. In school I loved art class, excelled and looked forward to it but never believed that I could be something there. When I went to college I focused on art and graduated near the top of my class with a BFA, and still believed that I would never be anything. After all, all I needed was a degree. With diploma in hand I entered the professional world with the ambition to climb the corporate ladder. Climb and climb to be something. Reaching to be something, I fall on art as therapy for the stress and anxiety that being something brings. Now I am something and nothing at the same time because I don't believe any more. And now I want to be something else. It is here in this ambition ...

John Peter Glover - At its foundation, my work uses a linear element as the basis for the composition. The intended result is to suggest or convey the essence of an object(s) in a vague manner often wrapped in an expressive emotional context. Based on a vast supply of my own drawings as a primary resource, I compound and refine the images until I'm satisfied that I have the right combination. Often, this is a matter of using layer upon layer of a building process within the image area. The subject or theme is certainly contemporary. I consider it to be more sensual than it is political, yet expressive, somewhat akin to the expressionistic style of the mid-twentieth century moderns. The work is also more surreal than representational. I work both with traditional mediums (acrylic on canvas) as well as with digital tools. Regardless of the medium the central concept or message is never a "slave" to the medium. The images will assume a varied appearance or "complexion" depending the medium . Although I find that the digital work in general is not always understood in terms of it's archival integrity, I can assure my buyers that my work is always ...

Bridget Busutil - Bridget Busutil,google22976108fdd647b3.html Powered by View my page on Peacemaker Institute ARTIST STATEMENT. Art is a way of Life My life is about Art and reflects the multicultural diversity in which I was raised. I favour projects that mix Arts and multiculturalism and are interdisciplinary. I think that as an artist my world is not limited to an aesthetical dimension. Hopefully it goes beyond, through engaging a dialogue with the viewer that proposes discovery, criticism and reflection. Through my work I am offering the discovery of several worlds packed up in layers as in my encaustic, a sort of journey of self-discovery, as well as discovery of i?1/2the otheri?1/2 with the respect for cultural differences. The necessity is to succeed in viewing these differences as contributions to our own cultures and understand the wealth they have to offer. When I paint or teach students to draw a linei?1/2, I am aware of reaching out for a world without frontiers. Technically I wish to bridge the past to the present and show that there is a continuity in life experience that only artists are capable of showing. Keyword Optimizer ...

Timothy King - ARTIST STATEMENT and BIOGRAPHY STATEMENT I find painting goes beyond the notion that painted reality is "nothing but " a precursor to a photographic realism. Painting is a phenomenological experiment. There is a synthesis between the visual and the kinesthetic that forms a powerful third range of human perception. Human space and form are not purely optical manifestations. The painting of mass and line can provoke a muscle sense, a physical ness between viewer and the painted relationships. Hans Hoffman called this "Push-Pull". Matisse referred to this as the convexity of pictorial space. In this "meta-vision" or "minds-eye" the painter is not freed from the experience of perspective and local color and the naturalistic geometry of the objects and scenes. Rather, the painter can be liberated by the experience and knowledge of the defining aspects of human reality. Vision encompasses the obvious factors of sight along with other less obvious paths to sensing reality. Human vision is based on a plasticity of structures that tell us more than what a photograph can convey. The visual system, governed by layers of logical relationships, goes much further than a photo interpretation of reality. Painters like Courbet and Cezanne understood ...

Charles Gibbons - My current project "Organic Geometry." Organic Geometry is the mathematical extrapolation of the rymthic beat of music, plotted and captured in a moment of time. The relationships between Science & Music & Math & Art, and the translation of the relationship into visual art. Mathematics is the majestic structure conceived by man to grant him comprehension of the universe. It holds both the absolute and infinite, the understandable and the forever elusive. It has been said by Leibnitz that, music is a secret mathematical exercise. Music has these qualities, a rhythmic beat, musical notes in perfect harmony, and at the same time seemingly random beauty. Ironically so do Math and Science. The Art is the medium to share the relationships....

Dieter Picchio-Specht - Art, creativity and imagination have always played an important part in my life, although I have only started to fully concentrate on painting a few years ago. This passion has always been part of me. I have finally given up my work as a general manager in industry - to dedicate all my time to painting. At last I do what I have always wanted to do. It is simply that a dream has finally come true. Even during my years at secondary school my paintings were awarded prizes and I should have enrolled in art classes after I passed my A-levels. In fact, a renowned company manufacturing ceramics offered me a scholarship, which I was unable to accept at the time. I have always kept up with painting as landscapes and images, abstract and impressionist. Since some years now I am able to paint full-time and fill canvas after canvas with my ideas. My new studio is right in the centre of the village of Arcegno, surrounded by wooded hills, near to Ascona, a well-known tourist centre at the Lago Maggiore in the South of Switzerland. I apply the paints directly to the canvas with a spatula. ...
