Artists Describing Their Art:

Luis Guillermo Ramírez Ezquerra - Luis RE. Artist statment. Versus: sobre Borderline borderline [boer-der-lain] s. Limite, orilla, frontera.- a. Incierto, dudoso.

Emilio Merlina - I was born in 1950 in the North East of Italy from a polish mother and a sicilian father. I toured the world until I was 35, then I returned to Italy and picked up again my old passion painting and sculpture. As for myself, I can only say thoughts and paintings, paintings and thoughts. Everything maybe useless, however everything is life. i?1/2The human being leaves its signs, graffiti, indian dreams and imagination. Now I only have left a few more possibilities to express the colors which are not. Only the sign, scratched, angry or brushed is the witness. The sign has passed from there and there it has lived.i?1/2 Emilio Merlina Some hear if a door opens Others hear a latch which opens or closes Others more they hear the Angel when he turns over a page of the Great Book From the novel Missa Sine Nomine By Ernst Wiechert I have words which relegate my hunger And the hunger which owns my body but which do not confine them I have words which are both my confined hunger and body By the Italian poetess Paola Lovisolo ...

Martin Glick - As a realistic sculptor I have often been accused of running against the tide of the more modern and abstract movements, but if you take a good look at the work the design is abstract. The look of the work may be, at first glance academic or classical, but the composition is very much in today's idiom. There is a strong sense of movement. Even in the symmetrical sculptures you feel as if they are about to move, like a stop motion camera. They all invite invite you to walk around and see the other side. There is often a strong emotional element and or a narrative. In some sense I am a story teller. Even when viewing one of my portraits you see the subject. Their history and personality is in their face for you to see and to react to. I have been told that my sculptures have something that is unique. There is a twist to the norm, a twist of the form, an emotional element that is mine. It is my heart and my particular view of the world. No price quoted on a sculpture means that it is at a gallery. All i inquiries...

Aad Flapper - Dear reader, The most important qualities of a work of art for me are: --Originality: I can only be inspired to start making a sculpture when it has for me the quality of something new, it must feel like being a real part of me. --The work has to arouse thoughts behind the surface, the viewer has to be able to wander around, find his own ideas and fantacies while viewing. --Good craftmanship...

Austen Pinkerton - Artists Statement Austen Pinkerton If I turn my mind to it very quickly I can come up with several ideas for works aEUR|paintings, drawings, or sculptures. Sometimes ideas come to me when I least expect it, or when my mind is on other things. Ideas can be related to my current experiences, or to my feelings about things that are happening to me in my life at that particular time. Alternatively they can be related to a current interest, or something that occupies my attention at that moment, and my ideas and feelings about which Id like to share with others. A lot of my work is autobiographicalaEUR|either directly or indirectly, consciously or subconsciously. It is frequently very personal, and expresses events or circumstances or experiences in my life. I usually work in either Acrylic on Canvas, Crayon or Pastel, or both together, with Gouache, on card, Drawing in pencil, or Ink, or both, or with creating SculptureaEUR|for which I use fired artists clay. Sculpture follows a completely different set of rules and values from two-dimensional art, obviously, I think of it as Drawing in three dimensions and I take this into account when creating mine. In...

Dan Woodard - Archetypes...Myths...Rituals. I have long been intrigued and fascinated by these concepts. In my sculptures, both figurative and abstract, I employ these aspects of a collective unconscious to evoke an emotional state within the viewer. In my figurative work, my goal is to capture the myriad changing state of the human condition through subtle changes in facial countenance and body language. The end result shows how the inner condition is expressed by the outward form while also conveying a sense of this expression transcending both time and history. In my abstract sculptures, I have recreated the numinous quality of subconsciously shared images, stories, and ceremonial rites. The sculptures, themselves, are composed of abstract forms that are covered with a rich, textural surface. The end result is a complex organic piece that evokes a sense of ancient artifacts, of ritualistic objects from some unknown culture, or of imagined landscapes. However, be it figurative or abstract, my ultimate goal is to have the viewer feel a sense of familiarity with the work...a sense of having experienced this before. I believe this feeling of deja vu arises from both the collective unconscious and a mystical center we all share. ...
