  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Corrie Ancone - Artist statement : "I don't care for the certainty of what's in front of my lens, but the creativity, the fantasy, the invention, that can gush from a thought before or thereafter. Between the certain and the uncertain there is a possible space, as in dreams and fables. Heavily influenced by mythology, nature and the techniques and working styles of the early European Dadaists, Impressionists and Baroque artists, my creativity stems from my lust for finding and exploring sympathies between the human body, the landscape and its textures. Oscillating between transparency and opacity, colours and images collide in my work, creating new visual and emotional images, often painterly and somewhat surreal, which affect perceptions of natural reality. This is sometimes described as 'synthetic realism'." Corrie Ancone ...

Pham Kien Giang - Please patiently listen to! People often say the artists paint by their eyes, but I - myself do not understand why I paint by my ears. I often sit alone, close my eyes and listen to the sound from the life, from the memory, listen to the echo from somewhere "The wind from somewhere is same to the echo of time immemorial My way I am walking has imprinted a lot of the people . The blades of grass, foot of the trees are quivering as talking together The rustle of the storks in the sky is same to calling for the freedom " Suddenly, I am aware of something which . Updated on November 8th 2010...

Nicole Pereira - NICOLE PEREIRA Nicole Pereira is a young rising artist who started producing artwork at the young age of 4. Nicole noticed that she had a gift for art when her artwork was selected in her local public school and community art competitions. The local press also started raving about Nicoles work. With encouragement from her family and friends, Nicole now devotes all of her free time to paint abstract portraits that express her feelings and emotions. Originally, she started drawing realistic portraits of individuals and celebrities, but felt that she wanted to add more. By careful reinterpretation of the portrait, the use of broad brushstrokes and vivid colors, Nicole conveys her thoughts, feelings and emotion to the canvas to create unusual artwork. Nicole is just beginning to get recognition in the art world as a gifted and unique artist and her potential is unlimited....

Michael Tieman - As Michael Tieman sees it, "The role of an artist from the dawn of time has been as a visual storyteller. The stories my paintings and sculpture tell are ones of confidence, strength, passion, playful sophistication and the celebration of life." "I create my bronze sculpture as a three dimensional painting, texture becomes the Impressionistic impasto brushstroke, color is the play of light and shadows across the surfaces, and detail is the impression of movement." ...

Jerry Ross - Manifesto of American Verismo By Jerry Ross, 2012 "American verismo", a movement that I have recently founded, is a catch-all phrase for an artistic style that draws its main inspiration from Italian art, both classical and modern. There is an implied nostalgia for work done "dal vero" (after life) whether classical (Raphael, Rubens, or Caravaggio, etc.) or 19th century (the Tuscan I Macchiaioli school) or more contemporary. Verismo is somewhat akin to contemporary "atelier realism" but the latter has been criticized for an academic uniformity and its over attention to details. American verismo is more poetic and linked to post-impressionism, the Milan-based Scapigliatura ('wild hair') movement, and the I Machiaioli's commitment to social issues. But like atelier realism, American verismo is associated with a painterly sketching style, use of broad brushstrokes, and the alla prima, "direct attack" technique of painting. It is also linked to all'aperto (open air) impressionist-style landscape painting. In short, to pleinairism which has become widely popular in recent years. I first introduced the term during several classes he taught at the Maude Kerns Art Center in Eugene and then later at the "Angels Fight Road Art Center" plein air retreat...

Marilyn Nosewicz - Photography, and Painting are like Magic, Joy , My Birthday, and Christmas all wrapped into one good feeling. Brian Josselyn - ' I use thick, rich paint to translate the beauty, and excitment of a moment into a lusious vision. The scultural presence of thick paint tempts you to touch it with it's seductive tactile appeal. . Dramitic lightin futher abstracts familar imagery creating a new provocitive view.' ...

Michele Niels - The purpose of this portfolio was to introduce myself as a dance exercise technical basis teacher. Over the years, after my carcrash,I have developed a one of the kind dance program, emphasing specific breathing method, involving body energies, suitable to every one:new mind against the old one. Did I loose my time?NO!Studing medecine:drawing outside and inside of the human body led me to the painting. Did I change something?NO!Always flexible,I dragged these body energies(universal) to the painting:same consciousness, more improved! How I manage my paintings?Starting from an object,I go on,in osmosis with my muse, my deep self consciousness, surely not remaining on surface!Surprised of the result!During the work we are silently in a second phase:each painting drags a step upper, always in the deep consciousness! Staying on surface conducts to the failure. What I paint is a kind of puzzle. In this deep consciousness every thing is linked, not separated: thus new way to work in all scopes....

Stephen Fessler - Artist's Statement: Visionism All my images are born accidentally. I tack my studio dropcloths onto the wall once they've become sufficiently splattered with paint, and search the surface for suggestions. I'll discover an image within a tangle of marks, and paint to free it, an archaeologist unearthing an artifact. This process leads to related discoveries, and the more I find, the better I understand the space they inhabit, and a painting is underway. In this way does the painting gradually reveal its content and mood. Everything I like of the art I've seen, Eastern and Western, ancient and modern, sacred and profane, ends up in my work. It must be that, as I gaze at my randomly stained surfaces, these remembered images give clues as to what to look for. The larger canvases are free-hanging, fitted with grommets and intended to be tacked directly to the wall like a tapestry or banner. Smaller works on canvas are mounted and stretched so as to preserve their irregular edges. Stephen Fessler Artists' Statement: Directed Perception My mode of seeing changes when something has caught my attention. My "directed perception" chooses what I will see while obscuring everything...

Julie Van Wyk - ARTIST STATEMENT I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED AND ADMIRED IMPRESIONIST PAINTERS OF THE PAST AND WANTED TO PAINT LIKE THEM. MY FAVORITE PAINTER IS CLAUDE MONET. I WORK IN WATERCOLOR,, ACRYLIC, OIL AND PASTEL. MY FAVORITE MEDIUM IS ACRYLIC. I LIKE TO PAINT QUICKLY SO THAT THE PAINTING RETAINS ITS FRESHNESS, AND ACRYLIC ALLOWS ME TO DO THIS ...

Jose Luis Nunez - Everybody can relate to the world aesthetically. Most people have aesthetic experiences not only with art. But it is the task of the artist to express authentic experiences and make others experiment them. The ability to transmit an aesthetic experience to other people is what is called degtalentdeg. The pursue of that task involves the complete life and energy of the artist....

Dana Zivanovits - Dana Zivanovits was born in 1958 in Columbus, Ohio and received his art training from the Columbus College of Art and Design (1978 to 1982). After art school, he went abroad for a year and studied the art of the old masters in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome and Venice. Returning to his studio in Columbus to develop these influences into a new body of work, he then traveled to Mexico and studied the sculpture and painting of that country for an extended period. The unique and vivid colors of Palenque and Vera Cruz intensified his palette. After a period in Ohio, he then moved to Venice Beach, California where the brilliant light of the region reinforced his desire to capture effects of sunlight and atmosphere. Returning to Ohio in 1995, he has continued to paint themes deriving inspiration form sources such as world mythology, classic and B-grade cinema, literature and dreams. However his primary inspiration is direct observation from nature, versus an approach based in art theories or cultural critique. Dana has been widely represented by galleries and exhibition projects including Julie Rico and Mega Boom in Los Angeles, the Venice Art Detour, Around the Coyote Festival in Chicago ...

E S Desanna - I paint outdoors to force concentration, to achieve a rapid, lucid response to the parameters set by the changing light... I sometimes travel to distant locales, paints in hand, to use the novelty of location to insist on a more intense concentration. A change of scene sharpens my vision and forces extreme focus. But every outing is an adventure. Atmosphere and light effect a mood and sense of place that I try to capture in my work. Even the most familiar sight can be especially alluring in certain weather or light conditions. ...

Lynne Friedman - Friedman seeks the dramatic and poetic grandeur of nature in paintings inspired by the Hudson Valley and such varied terrains such as the Arizona desert, coast of Cornwall, England and the High Sierras. Her process incorporates exacting essence from a location by seeking to explore its emotive properties, personal responses and exploring the formal concerns of light, color, and the tactility of paint....

Jo Allebach - JO ANN ALLEBACH ARTIST STATEMENT Jo Allebach Bio As an artist, I strive to create art that is a unique expression of who I am, and what I know and love. My art is my passion. The challenging aspect of painting is taking a familiar scene and creating my own personal vision of it. I have a sense of awe in everything around me, finding it absolutely enchanting and seek to show it in my work. I feel nature is our greatest teacher I consider my paintings to be celebrations on canvas. I hope my art will resonate in the observers' memory so that the process of recollection becomes a dialogue with the image. They are a tribute to the beautiful world in which we live. Through my unique works of art, I bring joy to the homes and lives of collectors all over the country. I create art to bring home the memories of what I saw. Not a picture duplicating what I saw but the memories evoked by what I saw. Over the years I have created a visual memory for the landscape. In my painting I just mentally hiked the scene, creating rocks and trees, hills and ...

Marilia Lutz - The act of creation is holy and profound in all its manifestations - not only the natural world surrounding us, but also the artistic manifestations representing life. Through my art, I try to represent and communicate visually what I believe illustrates the beauty of life and nature - from special moments or places, and from small things, whether symbolic or not. I find inspiration for my compositions in my surroundings, in moments that are for one reason or another important to me. I look deeply into my feelings to express what I believe is meaningful. Being an artist has been an exciting and overwhelming experience that enriches my life and gives me the opportunity to share with others some of my experiences, views and feelings. My preferred medium is oil on canvas; sometimes I explore other mediums such as pastel, charcoal, and graphite. I explore three basic themes in my compositions that I call: Trilogy; Insights in Forms and Shapes; and Visions of Places. "Trilogy" is a study where I represent what I believe to be the essence of life: the eternal and constant presence of three elements in many aspects of life and nature. "Insights in Forms and Shapes" it is...
