  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Vladimir Volosov - I was born in 1937 in Leningrad, USSR (now St. Petersburg, Russia). My way to art was a lengthy one. Before becoming an artist, I studied for thirty years at the forefront of modern physics as a PhD scientist and professor, author more than 150 scientific articles in contemporary laser physics. Thirty years of strenuous scientific work on the front edge of modern physics gives me a deep feeling for the anxiety and unprotectedness of the world's beauty. The formula, "beauty saves the world" fits my own attitude. My creed is also embodied in the statement: "to have time to realize everything given to you by Nature." At the threshold of my fifties, I decided to live one more life, a new, alluring life of the free artist. I walked away from my established scientific career and completely devoted myself to painting. In 1991 I founded and headed the association "Light, Color and Art" to connect with scientists engaged in the arts. The main directions of my paintings are lyrical realism and abstract compositions. My paintings are about light, color, atmosphere and space. For me, the most important elements are light and color and their juxtaposition/nexus/meeting of...

Daniel Clarke - Daniel E. Clarke is a Los Angeles Native who has been painting his entire career in the Los Angeles area. His art education has included studying under the internationally famous Timothy Clark, UCLA Extension University, and Glendale College. He has explored both pictorial and abstract designs but is dedicated to a free flow of color and dynamic composition. Mr. Clarke has concentrated on the acrylic and watercolor medium, and paints on location in his Los Angeles based studio. He also maintains his paintings and sales in his own company called Berrypunch Gallery. ...

Anita Zotkina - I treat my art creation as a spiritual practice. I paint whatever comes to mind. Most of the times it is women, animals, spirits and their interactions. I get inspired by being alive. Several times I tried to stop painting, so I could have more time for other activities, but every time I found an excuse to continue to create. I donaEURtmt have a special painting technique I just paint until my work seems to be completed. ...

Joyce Waddell Bailey - WELCOME if you love art, you will love my website. I work in all media and like many artists, including Picasso, I create artwork in a distinct series of related images. Underpinning all of my work is drawing--it all starts with the pencil. Even ideas for photographs and digital prints are sketched out. Each series stands by itself Wash Drawings, Botanical Forms, Digital Prints, Photographs, Miniatures. The iconography within each series varies. As for my focus on botanical forms in Southwest Florida, these are wonders that compel fascination. I admit to careful study of botanical sources but l am not a Botanist--Botany is a science. Rather, I choose a subject, make drawings, take photographs and observe its response to its environment al placement, water, light, soil. Some plants are unlucky, others, breathe great growth into their lives by an accident of Nature. When I select a subject, I re-compose its attributes in a way harmonious, even surprising, to the viewer. Most of my work does not represent quiet scenes, they demand viewer participation. I do this by way of shapes, placement, color and a variety of techniques. For example, by using shallow planes, I frequently push forms ...

Austen Pinkerton - Artists Statement Austen Pinkerton If I turn my mind to it very quickly I can come up with several ideas for works aEUR|paintings, drawings, or sculptures. Sometimes ideas come to me when I least expect it, or when my mind is on other things. Ideas can be related to my current experiences, or to my feelings about things that are happening to me in my life at that particular time. Alternatively they can be related to a current interest, or something that occupies my attention at that moment, and my ideas and feelings about which Id like to share with others. A lot of my work is autobiographicalaEUR|either directly or indirectly, consciously or subconsciously. It is frequently very personal, and expresses events or circumstances or experiences in my life. I usually work in either Acrylic on Canvas, Crayon or Pastel, or both together, with Gouache, on card, Drawing in pencil, or Ink, or both, or with creating SculptureaEUR|for which I use fired artists clay. Sculpture follows a completely different set of rules and values from two-dimensional art, obviously, I think of it as Drawing in three dimensions and I take this into account when creating mine. In...

Deborah Paige Jackson - I love art and design in all forms and medium, in every aspect of my life. It's a part of who I am and something I can't get away from. I try to use true to life situations when possible. My favorite medium is watercolor because of the beauty of it. It seems to have a life of it's own as it flows and connects with the paper. Yet, the medium forces me to think and use extraordinary control. I am at a point in my life where the thought of art, design, and all the components involved in them consume my thinking. It shows up in my home in decorating, in my garden with landscaping, in my work, even with my family. I look forward to increasing my art presence in my portfolio here and in as many venues as possible. To all who view my work, I wish you much enjoyment. ...

Sandra Bryant - For us, mosaic is a form of magic. The process of breaking down large sheets of glass, finding that perfect glass for each small piece, that just right hue, level of transparency and surface texture that will speak to what IaEURtmm trying to say with this glass aEURoebrush stroke.aEUR The medium is always a joy and a challenge, cutting the perfect shape and size tesserae to create that feeling. The overall theme of our artwork is a resolute celebration of this life of our world, both our own creations and of natural things. Mosaic carries a message of wonder, not only in the monuments and architecture of our surroundings, but also of the hope intrinsic in this celebration...

Lora Vannoord - I am a Florida Artist originally from a small town in Michigan, now painting in Florida. My works are original oil paintings inspired by Mother Nature. I want to communicate my love of nature to help others see and appreciate the natural environment around them. My goal is to give others a calming and imaginative experience in their homes when they contemplate my oil paintings. I enjoy the creative composing of my landscapes using my store of images and my imagination. I combine my sketchbook images and photos to form my imaginary landscape. I then feel excited and fulfilled when my work goes well. Even as a child my happiest times were when I was creating art or attending art activities and museums. I am a member of the Tarpon Springs Art Association, the Palm Harbor Art Club, the Creative Artists Guild, I have been chosen to show my original oil paintings in many of their juried exhibits. I have had solo exhibits in Grand Rapids MI, Dunedin FL, Oldsmar FL and Tarpon Springs FL.. I have shown oil paintings in group exhibits in Clearwater FL, Crystal Beach FL, Tarpon Springs FL, Oldsmar FL, Dunedin FL, Sarasota FL, Safety Harbor...

Daniel Wall - Daniel Wall is the founder of Intense Impressionism, which is characterized by unsurpassed intensity and boldness. Started in the 1980s by Daniel Wall, Intense Impressionist techniques include big, conspicuous strokes created with palette knife, extreme texture with heavy paints, intensified vibrant colors, and exaggerated striking effects of lights. Daniel Wall's Intense Impressionist landscape, cityscape, seascape, and floral paintings are unrivalled in their popular appeal and are among the best loved in the world today. Daniel Wall began drawing and painting when he was a little kid. His first art teacher was his mother, a very talented and diligent art and craft woman. Daniel Wall earned a lot of art awards in his childhood. He had been accepted to a fine art academy when he was a teen. He has study fine art in China, Italy, and United States. He gained his art senses, different calture, apprences, and ability from a variety of art sources by working as an art instructor, art editor, illustrator, and professor. That is key why he was able to establish the Intense Impressionism style painting. He made his decision and became a professional artist after got his master degree from Georgia Southern University. Daniel Wall ...

Ulrika Leander - My subject matter is primarily related to the inspiration that I find in the colors, shapes and movement in the natural world in all its forms my work is about expressing and conveying the feelings of joy, peace, and tranquility that come with the contemplation of Nature. I use a traditional weaving technique while constantly striving to extend my ability to capture nuances of color tone and structure. I work with a vertical tapestry loom together with the highest quality tapestry yarns from Scandinavia. I explore and develop my ideas through the medium of watercolor. When I reach the point where I feel that I am ready to commit to devoting 5-6 months or more to transforming my ideas into a tapestry, the outline of the water color design is traced and then digitally enlarged to the full size of the final tapestry. This enlargement provides the map for guiding the hand-weaving process while the watercolor provides the guide for the selection of the yarn colors and tones. During weaving, multiple fine threads of varying thicknesses are blended to achieve the delicate variations in the color tones of the watercolor. ...

    C. A. Hoffman - For me, my artwork is very personal. It reflects a lot about how I am feeling at any given time and place. I feel that art has to be on this personal level to completely capture how the artist is feeling daily, or trying to convey a certain thought or emotion at that particular moment. We all, at one time or another try to express our thoughts or ideas, whether it is to others or just to ourselves, by words, actions, ideas or pictures. If we are sucessful in this attempt, I think it shows through in our everyday work or art. I believe that one is either born to create art naturally or by learning. For me, I feel that I was born with this wonderful gift, and I try to improve upon it every day. In my photos and art, I hope to show how everyday objects and nature can capture our imaginations and feelings. Sometimes I work with an image to improve it, inhance it, or just to fuel the imagination. I truly hope this shows in all of my art. ...

Edem Elesh - I am interested in examining the miracle of everyday existence. I have lead a very unique life. Born in Los Angeles and educated from an early age at English boarding schools, I have been exposed to two different cultures. This gives my work an American energy with English sensibilities. I am intrigued by the interplay born of this duality: order and chaos, old and new, the conscious and unconscious, structure and freedom. Not to mention expectation and accident. I am currently working with a new form of mixed media which allows, to an even greater extent, the chances of an interplay between process and providence....
