  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Jennifer Vranes - Words like brilliant and vibrant are often used to describe the contemporary paintings of Jennifer Vranes. With her extreme texture, and colors just brighter than reality, Vranes' paintings capture an intense energy that is both positive and uplifting. An extensive world traveler, Vranes gets her inspiration from places she has seen from all over the world. Through her art, she transports the viewer to distant lands where poppies grow wildly in breathtaking meadows; where fragrant Lavender is farmed in lush rows in France; or where aspens quake in the Rocky Mountains. Vranes finds the secret utopias that often go unnoticed and she captures it on canvas for the whole world to stop and take notice. Her passion to capture the dazzling beauty of nature stems from having grown up in a small country town in Southern Oregon. Perhaps it is her upbringing that inspires her subject matter which consistently portrays large, open spaces and white houses--much like the house she grew up in. Vranes continued her education at Brigham Young University , graduating in April 1998 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree. It was after her graduation that she met and married Matthew Vranes, a native of San Francisco. ...

Roz Zinns - Roz Zinns has been involved in art for the last 40 years, from oil painting to weaving to contemporary art quilts. Her work has been displayed nationally and has been reproduced in US and international publications. She majored in Arts Administration and owned a San Francisco gallery specializing in original art and quality artisan crafts. Recently she has come full-circle, back to painting, and is enjoying the creativity and challenge of working in acrylics and water-immersible oils She has always had a love of the land which is evident in her work. Although she is currently focusing on landscapes, she is finding that the compositional element of land in an urban environment has become a fascinating study for her. She also loves to travel and has been interpreting her images on to canvas. She has observed that over the years many of the places she has painted either don't exist anymore or have changed drastically in their usage or appearance. So how wonderful to have captured them as they existed, but with her own interpretation....

Francisco Landazabal - In a world where life passes too quickly and the instant runs away suddenly I chose to live calmly to study the inner nature of things. I have been my entire life enquiring about the whole reality, and hence my journey through various disciplines like fine arts, philosophy and even technology. My art is a human art, where being in touch with people and nature is extremely important, but then, I always return to the silent retreat of my Atelier in the mountains of Colombia to find the essence of things on the tip of my brushes and painting knives which results in the form of colorful and vibrant compositions, where a sort of magic is revealed. Sometimes it is very close to impressionism or expressionism, and sometimes it is fully abstract, a dance of the mere color masses and shades changing to allow the watcher to dream and complete the artwork. ...

Francisco Landazabal - Jessica Dunn -

Dennis Duncan - A lifelong student of contemporary realism, I utilize various mediums to create art that stimulates the mind , body, and soul of each individual. By incorporating these three basic principles into each subject matter , at times the imagery takes on a "surrealist" aspect , "meditative", even "spiritual"... I've tried incorporating industrial products and textured mediums into my presentations, adding an "urban edge" to my body of work. . ...

Jose Luis Munoz Rodriguez - Jose Luis Munoz paints muted abstracted environmental portraits that explore themes such as climate change, urban development, lost civilizations, urban sprawl and the material hubris humans leave in their wake. I find myself on the constant look out for abstract art that ignites my mind in some way and that's why I'm writing about Jose's Luis Munoz's work today What interests me about Munoz's abstract paintings is that while they are pretty to look at, they are titled in such a way that they are refreshingly relevant. They speak of history, the environment and how humans interact with it. They have meaning beyond their muted colors and strong horizontal compositions. I'm referring here to titles that actually correlate with the compositions. The plausible connection between the two pushes you to study the work more closely. When us art oriented folk think of Malaga Spain we associate this place with Pablo Picasso's hometown. And when we've got Picasso on our mind, if we bracket cubism from our thought process, we think about a hyper sensual art oriented towards human corporeality. Jose Luis Munoz - also from Malaga, has ...

Carlos Pardo - IN SHORT: INSPIRATION: Concious and unconcious perceptions, my background, all circunstances of my life, experiences, past and present, books and newspapers that I read, films, Internet aEUR|feelings, emotions and a fertile imagination sometimes, all them aid to weave a story that will change alongside the execution of a piece. In my opinion our tradition, for thousands of years, the Arts reflect the vision of a trascendent life beyond our tangible life. THEME: Unreal cityscapes let us a special kind of plasticity. The imagination and feelings are active agents that are modeling the perceptible reality. Transcendent and oniric themes entered and remain in my artwork. In my imaginary urban landscapes there are overlaid elements of towns he has visited, some imagined, and maybe dreamed, but all with a unique feminine soul. The Town is a mother, lover, or daughter of the actions, dreams and passions of those who dwell in them or recall them in the distance. It is an idea in which wander those who have been caught up in its infinite labyrinth. PROCESS: I usually have not idea about what I will show on the surface. There is a lack of a script or previous sketch. Forms are born...

Scott Brown - The world is filled with visual excitement. When I am receptive to that excitement, a work of art is born. Then it becomes a matter of fleshing it out on paper. If I am sucessful the viewer will feel that initial excitement I felt. In a sense, the artist is a reporter of feelings. Digital Collection. Recently I started creating digital artwork. All works in the Digital Collection can be resized to any multiple of 8.5 inches by 11 inches horizontal landscape or vertical portrait orientation. After purchasing the artwork, you must inform me of the size you desire and contact information of the printer you would like to use. I will send the printer the corresponding file. ...

Avril Ward - Artist's statement. Creating has become an intricately woven part of my life. I must express nature, as it is my window to God. I must delight in the human body, a marvel that never ceases to amaze. I must express love and joy-this keeps them tangible in my life. I must trust my instincts and skills allowing them to lead me in the right direction. Most importantly: if my art can move a person to pause, think, smile, ponder, cry, laugh, be encouraged or give them hope, then I have served my purpose in life." Paola Di Renzo - Born in Abruzzo, I live and work in Sardinia .Pure amateur artist,I used to work with paper, mainly magazine paper, sand, acrylic and tempera.Nowadays I look for the pleasure of playing with colours with which I try to express feelings and emotions. If I was able to express in words what I try to convey with colours.......I would be a writer!...

Stefan Fiedorowicz - The language of lyrical abstraction interpreted... by Michael Bouger 2008 Stefan Fiedorowicz, a Canadian now residing in Vienna Austria has amassed a most impressive resume with shows spreading out from Canada, United States and Europe. Fiedorowiczs work has often been compared to the great modernists of the past following the notable style of lyrical abstraction, a term meaning an opening to personal expression. While perhaps a compliment, this also seems a disservice to his striking talent. The emotion in my work comes from somewhere deep down, and can speak to the inner part of each person... My work is intuitive colour is the language that I use to express an emotion. It is the interaction of colour that interests me. Fiedorowicz possesses something more than a painter following in the footsteps of others before. There is a supreme depth to his work that captures a newer sense of Modernism, something that is sadly missing from the current art scene. His shapes and lines infuse his paintings with a richly exotic symbolism of style. There is purpose and psychology to his work, conveying a sense of confidence from a broad spectrum of experience. Fiedorowiczs distinction as a modern painter is in ...

Ivan Pili - Following in the footsteps of the great masters of the past, the tradition of classical and romantic nineteenth-century painting that evolves into a figurative language relives in the beautiful works of art of master Ivan Pili , whilst the segno runs fast and decisive in the graphic ability from suffused values aEUR
Tom Lund-Lack - I am an experienced artist whose work uses the power of imagination to find find the essence of the subject.A It is grounded in the need to celebrate life, and to portray the subject through the transforming power of colour and light. Arrangements of shape, line, pattern and colour are brilliant at conjuringA up powerful expressions, sometimes these can be dreamlike and at peace sometimes exciting and dramatic. My work does not always represent an actual moment, place or object in time, but they areA the result of a process of reflection, recollection and reinvention, a distillation of experience. Art is a very small word having the widest possible meaning appreciation is a subjective judgement and no artist or workA can please everyone.A My aim is to please at least some of you and I am very confident that this aspiration is achievable ...

Wayne Wilcox - Artist's statements have always seemed redundant to me. The work generally speaks for itself. But here goes For me it's about shapes, color and lines interacting and relating to each other. Representational, abstract, non-objective; they're all the same. Light against dark, color against color, line intersecting line. I'm as comfortable with super realism as I am with abstract expressionism. Then, of course, there's the medium. I love the paint. I love the act of painting. I love how it flows and how it takes on a direction on it's own. It's like magic. With one stroke something appears before your eyes that wasn't there before. An image. An emotion. With each stroke or drip it changes. It's an amazing experience. I highly recommend it. And then there's image. I am a visual artist. I'm after strong images, images that evoke a feeling. Starkness, warmth, love, violence, emptiness, beauty, strength . I want the painting or drawing to stand on it's own. I am a painter. I cannot escape that fact. There have been times I've tried but I always return. It's not what I do. It'...
