Julia Cake - Julia Cake: Sculptress Born: 1973 in Monaco Currently Living in England Introduction Julia's passion for sculpting began when she was 16 after an accident cut short a holiday from another of her true passions, skiing. She enrolled in the famous Beaux Art academy in France to more fully express what was already an over whelming artistic flair. She decided to move into the three-dimensional world of sculpting. This dynamic gave Julia the release she needed to allow her artistic ideas to flow. These ideas when suppressed in earlier years were sometimes misunderstood by those around her, who would comment that Julia's introspective behavior perhap's required a quite different therapy. Her first ever piece "Trois Elephants" was judged 2nd place at an international exhibition in Cannes. She was just 17 years old. From clay she moved into marble, which soon became the stone for which Julia's passion raged. Born in Monaco and growing up in the French Riviera, Julia was able to drive into Italy to hand pick the most beautiful pieces of naturally formed marble to work with. Larsen Lena - At the vanity, chasing the dream that is often just a mirage, tired with stress and permanent search, at the stream of rushing days and years we sometimes stand motionless for a while seeing something beautiful: open flower, spring dusk, the picture that suddenly attracted our attention. It is possible that such abstractions and revelations are the main meaning of art. After all, the artist's brush can really fix the time, place, and mood, and capture for a moment our mind, tossing between past and future, and thus awake our feelings and thoughts......
Sheila Fraga - Woman figure is the main theme of this exhibition entitled "Hope." Woman body has been an inspirational and interest motive for many artists in the Art History. I had intended to take this concept in order to reflect not only the woman beauty and sensuality but also to incorporate my own living experiences within the history frame that my generation had lived. I would like to establish a dialogue between the audience and my paintings to provoke controversy and interest toward concepts of identity, spirituality and love. Characters portray feelings of love, defiance, meditation, hope, and encourage the spectator to dream. Nudity is not used to identify woman figure as a sex symbol but a bearer of feelings, spirituality, expressiveness and determination to pursue happiness and new ideas in the social scenario. The use of celestial settings depicted In the skies and clouds are implemented to reflect spirituality and its interaction with daily life. Techniques such as oil, pastel and cut-out are present in my paintings and drawings as a mean to transmit emotions and expressiveness. Mrinal Dey - ABOUT MY WORK From my childhood, I and our family live in a rent house, even in which had a single room and we are six family members, parents and my four brothers. But those times I have no obligation to feel that circumstances, because I had my own restriction and don't feel how long space I need. However, I left it midway when I realized that I wanted to be an artist. Once upon a time I thought I would be a'Revolutionary'. But I am found myself helpless. My middle-class identity taught me escapism. This was a saddening prospect. As a painter I thought I would give vent to my sadness and depict my state of mind. I am still trying to fathom as how this could happen. But now when I recall my past and recall those days I feel how many problems we had. And how could my parents face it every moment. What ever, now I have my own language to express myself. The underlying sadness of the funny feelings is now discernible to me. I believe in my sensibilities. Theodhoraq Napoloni - Artistic Practice My artistic practice generally is oriented towards painting. In essence the paintings portray theatrical situations created by objects, and for a formal and aesthetic appearance the image that is represented has the quality and attributes of''FICTION REALISM''. What interests me most is the expressing of situations that deal with the unconsciousness, and it is exactly this unconsciouss that gives a lot of importance to the instinctive side and pushes me toward certain actions or pulls my attention towards something. During the realization phase of painting, this''special interest'' becomes more stronger and gives the image more apparent clearness with all the details and characteristics of the object. For me, the content I select to represent is very important. It is a selection that follows intuition primarily, and the psychological stains, putting them all together towards a real ending, that in fact, is an invisible reality whose imprints are hidden deep into fragmentilized moments of our history. All this process for me is the best tool to bring it in surface the deepest content of the truth, and the aesthetic dimension. The nature of the objects that become part of the painting is different. Bé Van Der Heide - Artist Statement I do work mostly in series. The images shown in my portfolio are examples of different series all executed over the last ten years. Some of the latest series such as "Dance of the transient forms" and "Collapse" have recently been exhibited in the Mas Poch Gallery in Spain. The most extensive series is called the "ENFANT TERRIBLE" series. These are drawings and paintings, mostly of a little girl and her family and friends. The rather menacing images of a seemingly helpless frightened little girl, being held tight or prettied up with bows in her hair, are inspired by photographs in my family album. In these drawings I am not interested in a photographic likeness, but I try to express a feeling about these people in the pictures. Part of the series were shown in the LCP Gallery in London during summer 2002 and in the Mas Poch Gallery in Spain November 2003. The series before "Enfant Terrible" is called: "WEBS", inspired by the sight of insects, leaves, dried up larvae; all caught in a Spiders web underneath a box on top of one of my work tables in the studio. Sandi Carpenter - Due to my endless curiosity and wide range of interests, my work has evolved over the years. Just as a musician would change instruments to perfect the mood and rhythm created, I enjoy moving from one medium to another, be it French dyes on silk, watercolor or acrylic. I am always hopeful that the magic I feel in creating these images will be felt by the viewer with similar intensity.
