Artwork Description:   This etching is labeled as photo centric, because its image is based on a Romanesque Manuscript Illumination from the Walters Art Museum Collection in Baltimore, Maryland. DiFalco completed three pencil and ink drawings of the manuscript before executing this zinc-plate etching. The artist filed the etching plate s edges and then coated it with a ground of beeswax and mineral spirits. Di Falco then transferred his graphite drawing onto the plate and then goes over his lines directly into the ground with needles, a process called INTAGLIO. The plate then underwent a Nitric acid bath, which allowed the acid to eat into any exposed areas. The plate is cleaned with turpentine and printed. The studio techniques of CHINE COLLE and DRYPOINT were also employed. DiFalco manually prints his etchings on a large, free standing Charles Brand Printing Press made in New York City. This scene shows Mary Magdalene informing the Apostles of her Companion’s return from death. Four editions, each one limited to only five etchings, will comprise the published portfolio of this work. This print was from the THIRD EDITION of FOUR and was executed in French, oil base ink on RivesBFK white paper. The image size is nine inches high by six inches wide, and the print measures fifteen inches high by eleven inches wide. The etching was created at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania within THE OPEN PRINTMAKING STUDIO on The Fleischer Art campus. This work does NOT include a frame or mat. The etching is shipped between two acid free boards and then packed carefully with archival glassine and bubble wrap. It is mailed in a heavy cardboard box. The ABSOLUTE ARTS DOT COM price covers wrapping materials and handling costs. Shipment costs are added.
