  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Lana Picciano - Laurie Vaughn - Primarily, my inspiration is derivitive of the New York School art movement genre of abstract expressionism. Additionally, I incorporate expressionist painting influences, derived from the CoBrA art, German Expressionism, in creating my personal brand, of representational, expressionist painting. Taking formal techniques from the CoBrA and New York School art movement, I blend subliminal nuances emanating from sources of inspiration, that are as diverse as Japanese calligraphy to the tribal art, of the Dogon. Utilizing a layering of abstract expressionist painting applications, I reference the oevres of expressionist artists that includes: Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, Joan Mitchell, Willem deKooning, Hans Hofmann, Robert Motherwell, and lesser known, abstract expressionism art movement painters. Representational techniques have been strongly influenced by the bold, vibrant, and colorful expressionist painting genre of significant CoBrA art movement icons, including: Cornielle, Karel Appel, Rooskens, Eugene Brands, Lucebert and Asger Jorn.I prefer to work in mixed media, incorporating gesso, tempera, acrylic, enamel and oil on canvas. My goal is to create individual series, dominated by influences from a combination of artists, overlaid with my personal interpretation or social commentary on events that effect us all....

Derek Mccrea - I have an online gallery showcasing my work at

Zinovy Shersher - When I emigrated to the US, I was not allowed to take my paintings with me - by the Soviet government. They said to me you are professional artist, you studied inRussian University, so everything youve created belongs to Russian people. So when inNew York I could not show anything Ive created to the American galleries. But aftervesting many of them in NY, I was amazed by the variety of different schools and styles of art in Dmerica, it was a firework of colors, manners, techniques, I realized that I had to find my own style, own motives in my art, I was glad that Ileft everything I created before behind. It took me 3 full years to create a new group of work, 6 years to find my own style,- modern, contemporary with great school and techniques I got from Russian school and a course in School of Visual Arts in NY. I started to create paintings and realized that I have basically 2 themes in my paintings Music and Love. SInce I am a musician and composer myself, I studied violin in childhood, I realized that the violin touches the most sensitive nerves and feelings in the human body, ...

Yoli Salmona - I paint to capture an experience, a feeling, and strive to share it through colour, form, and light. AERIAL LANDSCAPES It's a different beauty from the air, more poignant and more objective in its apparent immobility. Whether formal or natural, the landscapes seen from the air become become more abstract. I can playfully re-order and move around details and elements of reality- mostly trees and shadows- like tesserae in a mosaic. PORTRAITS To portray is for me to express an unequivocal presence, a feeling for an actual person. Sometimes, there can be an ambivalence, an invitation to a question, particularly fascinating when painting young people. For me, a successful portrait has an element of timelessness, while revealing something about the subject's present circumstance. BACKGROUND Born in France, I was a child who was drawing all the time. But for various reasons, I was unable to attend Art school growing up, and became a clothes/costume designer for ten years before studying (section Communication Visuelle) at the Paris Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs. My aim then was to reach a wide audience trough Print, and Paris Art Publisher Flammarion gave me the first of a...

Deborah Wilson - ARTIST STATEMENT - DEBORAH WILSON Ii?1/2m a native of Missouri, but, my husband and I have taken many opportunities to experience other areas of the US and our neighboring countries. So, my artwork is influenced by all of those cultures and environments which we have spent time in. This includes cross-country camping and hiking trips, which dip into Canada or Mexico, along with various missions trips, working vacations and temporary residences. We have gone on working vacations for extended time periods in USVI (St. John) and Yellowstone National Park. And, my husband and I were dual residents of Missouri and Hawaii for about 5 or 6 years. So, as you can imagine, there is great diversity of subject matter and I need several more lifetimes to paint everything that is wanting to be painted! Some paintings have been done in our camper, some in a makeshift studio in the closet, on the floor or on the dining room table. Here in Missouri, I have a studio separate from our house on our land, just outside of Springfield. Who we are and whatever is in our hearts tends to come out in our artwork. So, you will find a lot ...

Steve Miller - I have drawn and painted ever since I can remember. Pencil was always my favorite. I spent many hours as a child with a pencil and a piece of typing paper. In my late teens, I began to airbrush images on vans, motorcycle tanks, and T-Shirts. Later, I began creating illustrations for publications, and then on to creating graphics and animation on the computer for various companies/clients. Making a living seems to consume most of my time, but when things get slow or I find I have some extra time on my hands, the canvas seems to have an irresistible pull. One day a friend of mine, mentioned that he was going out and painting small plein air paintings. I told him I'd like to go along sometime. We set a time in the late spring a few years back and I borrowed an easel and we hit the Texas countryside. We painted 3 small paintings throughout the day and I loved it. It was such a relief to get away from the computer screen and play with color. Now I take my easel with me when ever I travel and paint every chance I get. Since ...

Lesta Frank - I paint the figure, color drenched in layers of metaphor. My work is about showing people experiencing moments of Self awareness and inner connectivity to our true nature. The excitement and awe found in creating art is a life-long continuation of my first adventure with finger painting as a young child. I am interested in combining realistic imagery with abstract shapes, in a shallow picture plane , The painting surfaces are enriched with layers of texture and pattern, using combinations of watermedia and collage, and the use of stencils, stamps and epoxy resin. ...

Arnold Grace Jr - I cannot imagine what my life would be without the ability to express my inner-most thoughts, dreams and other realities in a visual manner. I express myself through acrylic and oil paintings, mostly on canvas medium. The urge to recreate and interpret my internal and external stimulants is primal and brings me much satisfaction. I do not limit myself to any particular style. However I do tend to paint in an impressionistic form, verging on surrealism, imaginative and figurative representation also. My designs are not complicated or over worked images, but are effective statements of my experiences, augmented by the use of brilliant shimmering color composed from a tight pallette of primary and secondary colors. My subjects are people scenes, landscapes, seascapes and whatever I am compelled to do....

Will Kellermann - Willemine Kellermann, who autographs her paintings with Will Kellermann or WK for short, has been active as a professional artist for more than 30 years. Her work differentiates itself from others due to its adventure-like style and technique; she commands the subject and uses her materials as she sees fit. Most well-known are her'silkcolors', which are flowing paintings on silk giving an extra dimension in the way the light falls on them. In her oils, watercolours and pastels, she also demonstrates her strength in use of colour, never hard or cool, but rather vivid and full of warmth. Connoisseurs and critics often make comparisons with the great impressionists of the past, particularly her landscapes in oil or her intensive pastels of models. Will Kellermann senses forms and colours as a pleasure in life and knows how to convey this in her paintings. A painting made by Will Kellemann uplifts your mood and is gratifying for your soul. This is why such a painting will never bore you; it provides access to a romantic adventure that takes the viewer to a world of one's most beautiful dreams. Kellermann paitings hang everywhere from New York (Los Angeles) to ...

Linda Paul - Artists Statement" When asked 'What is your favorite painting', I always say, 'the next one I am going to paint!" Style: I don't paint in any one style, I let inspiration speak to me and I go with the flow. My work runs the gamut from chunky realism to abstract and impressionist painting. I use many different mediums to create my artworks. One of my favorites is egg tempera which I make by crushing stones and minerals and adding egg yolk. Blues come from crushed lapis lazuli, greens from malachite and natural green earth found around Verona Italy. I even use minerals found during hikes in the Rocky Mountains. I am captivated not only by the purity and naturalness of this medium, but by the science of it. Each pigment has its own set of properties and capabilities that must be explored. How better to express visions of the earth than with earth itself. This medium is luminous and lasts for centuries. also make my own acrylic paint in the same manner. By adding pure pigment to a acrylic polymer. I can add thing like crushed mica and pearlescents to make the painting come alive. Lately I have also ...
