  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Jerry Di Falco - Photography inspires my art and acts as a vital element in my etchings. The images I employ originate from my own photographs, as well as from the images I find from my research into the digital archives of universities, historical societies, libraries, and museums. Upon locating a documented scene I wish to etch, my first step involves the execution of two to five original drawings of the photograph. My collaboration between photography and printmaking allows me the independence to integrate my personal interpretations into the scene. Moreover, I create bridges between the physical and metaphysical visual realities in the same way that a camera intersects with human creativity . . . the nexus between the mechanical and the cerebral art tools. Art unveils everything that we mask behind our belief systems conversely, I strive in my creations to clarify those phenomena we overlook as a result of our egocentric assumptions. Ironically enough, I blame this failure to notice things, a process I label, the phenomenology of connectedness, on todayaEURtms very infatuation with and addiction to the new communicational technologies of social media. My artworks therefore become like windows through which to examine the mysteries of aEURoeeveryday consciousnessaEUR. In fact, my use of ...

David Larkins - Ii?1/2ve always been intrigued by the luminosity and transparencies found in watercolor, Oil and acrylic mediums. I believe an artist must experience the painting i?1/2 to absorb the surroundings, the atmosphere, to have a oneness with the subject matter before the first brush stroke is applied. My style is described as i?1/2Abstract Realismi?1/2 and my strength is found in the composition. Ii?1/2m drawn to diverse subject matter that challenges the viewer to see abstraction in the ordinary i?1/2 to meld the i?1/2reali?1/2 world with the i?1/2abstracti?1/2. ...

John Sims - Following some thirty years working as a graphic designer and illustrator I began stone carving in 2000 and in 2002 I returned to college at Christ Church Canterbury in England to study BA Fine Art. In 2007 I went to the Cyprus College of Art to study for a Post Grad Diploma in Fine Art under the great Cypriot artist, Stass Paraskos. At the end of the course I was asked to stay on and run the Summer Schools and to be tutor on the Post Grad course. An incredible experience and an enormous influence on my work. My work now involves less stone carving more often found timber or kebab sticks My drawing in some respects has turned a full circle in the sense that prior to sculpture my illustration work was colourful but painstakingly detailed and stylised. At college I concentrated on measured observational life drawing in pencil which fed into the simple lines of my mainly figuratively based stone carvings. Whilst in Cyprus I re-discovered colour in both my drawing and sculpture. Dreams and mythology filled my waking and sleeping hours. Oil pastel and oil sticks became my favourite mediums to quickly capture these glimpses of ...

Marsha Bowers - Marsha Bowers was born and raised in the Central Valley of California. She is a classically trained fine artist, skilled in the old Masters techniques of Flemish/Bistre and Venetian method using a grisaille underpainting and glazing with many layers. Most of her fine art paintings are rendered in oil. She sometimes applies real gold leaf into the artworks. Marsha finds inspiration in the old masters of the past. She spends many hours visiting Museums studying their work. Gothic and Renaissance are her favorite periods along with the Pre-Raphaelites artists. The artist loves the blending of the classical painting techniques with a more contemporary approach to her paintings. Her recent fine art paintings are of women, both figurative and portraiture. The inspiration for her paintings comes from her observations of life itself and through her own experiences. Each painting shares a message, story or emotion. Its what the artist herself describes as a "flowing" of the spirit, a creative process through which the artist paints a story unto the canvas, realizing that each viewer of her work may have their own interpretation of what the art is conveying. Most recently Marsha was invited to be included into the International ...

Nancy Bechtol - Artists explore and give the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. I visualize and think with keen beliefs and insights. Reflection of human and societal concerns which cross emotional boundaries-- communicating that which is unspoken. My traditional art foundations of drawing, painting and printmaking, evolved into video, digital photography and experimental media. Lora Vannoord - I am a Florida Artist originally from a small town in Michigan, now painting in Florida. My works are original oil paintings inspired by Mother Nature. I want to communicate my love of nature to help others see and appreciate the natural environment around them. My goal is to give others a calming and imaginative experience in their homes when they contemplate my oil paintings. I enjoy the creative composing of my landscapes using my store of images and my imagination. I combine my sketchbook images and photos to form my imaginary landscape. I then feel excited and fulfilled when my work goes well. Even as a child my happiest times were when I was creating art or attending art activities and museums. I am a member of the Tarpon Springs Art Association, the Palm Harbor Art Club, the Creative Artists Guild, I have been chosen to show my original oil paintings in many of their juried exhibits. I have had solo exhibits in Grand Rapids MI, Dunedin FL, Oldsmar FL and Tarpon Springs FL.. I have shown oil paintings in group exhibits in Clearwater FL, Crystal Beach FL, Tarpon Springs FL, Oldsmar FL, Dunedin FL, Sarasota FL, Safety Harbor...

Roz Zinns - Roz Zinns has been involved in art for the last 40 years, from oil painting to weaving to contemporary art quilts. Her work has been displayed nationally and has been reproduced in US and international publications. She majored in Arts Administration and owned a San Francisco gallery specializing in original art and quality artisan crafts. Recently she has come full-circle, back to painting, and is enjoying the creativity and challenge of working in acrylics and water-immersible oils She has always had a love of the land which is evident in her work. Although she is currently focusing on landscapes, she is finding that the compositional element of land in an urban environment has become a fascinating study for her. She also loves to travel and has been interpreting her images on to canvas. She has observed that over the years many of the places she has painted either don't exist anymore or have changed drastically in their usage or appearance. So how wonderful to have captured them as they existed, but with her own interpretation....

Luise Andersen - Luise'Mignon' Andersen Luise'Mignon' Andersen has only recently begun to reveal her lifes work. Soon after her debut she exploded onto the mainstream art world. Her breathtaking pieces have captured international interest. The stories Luise'Mignon' is telling through her truly deep, layered works seem to decipher the past and foretell the future, perhaps sharing her window to other dimensions and a seventh sense. Her detailed acrylic'Mignon' series speaks to the beholder. They inspire raw emotion and ignite ones imagination. The indescribable nature of the "Duree De Ma Vie" in particular has a growing portion of the art community considering it the conception of an entirely new style. James Gwynne - The sky and clouds afford the artist a tremendous number of shapes and colors. Movement can be captured in rhythmical patterns and forms. Together, these qualities can be inspirational and aesthetically stimulating when captured on canvas. The environmental paintings show the landscape affected by intrusions by man in the form of grafitti, trash, discarded objects, utility poles, etc. One can say that these are ugly reminders of landscape abuse, or that the beauty of nature dominates whatever intrudes. The figure paintings evolved from drawings done along with students during 30 years of teaching life drawing at the college level....

    C. A. Hoffman - For me, my artwork is very personal. It reflects a lot about how I am feeling at any given time and place. I feel that art has to be on this personal level to completely capture how the artist is feeling daily, or trying to convey a certain thought or emotion at that particular moment. We all, at one time or another try to express our thoughts or ideas, whether it is to others or just to ourselves, by words, actions, ideas or pictures. If we are sucessful in this attempt, I think it shows through in our everyday work or art. I believe that one is either born to create art naturally or by learning. For me, I feel that I was born with this wonderful gift, and I try to improve upon it every day. In my photos and art, I hope to show how everyday objects and nature can capture our imaginations and feelings. Sometimes I work with an image to improve it, inhance it, or just to fuel the imagination. I truly hope this shows in all of my art. ...
