Artists Describing Their Art:

Paula Wilson - I will accept commissions from life or photographs for people, animal or building portraits. Artist's Biography Born and reared in Kansas City, Missouri, Paula Wilson graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting/printmaking. After working in a non-related career, Paula returned to art in the late 1990's, becoming a member of the MidAmerica Pastel Society in 2000. Since that time, Paula's work has been accepted into several juried group shows and has started winning awards. In Spring, 2004, completed a Master's Series Figure Drawing Class from the continuing education department of KCAI with Michael Walling. In Summer 2005, partipated in a weekend workshop with Kim Casebeer, and in Spring, 2007, a week long workshop with Albert Handell and Anita Louise West. Paula's two dimensional art works are primarily created with pastel or oils and feature landscape, figure and animal subject matter. Paula's work attempts to capture impressionistic and realistic techniques in harmonious balance, show the exuberance and beauty of life....

Win Peterman - Artist Statement "Alice in Wonderland" as a child that is how I felt looking at the drawings, paintings and sculpture in my Uncle's shop. When I become absorbed in creating, the same wondrous childhood feeling - my "magic moment" takes over. Like Alice, I am propelled along the path, capturing unexpected delights. My goal is to spark the "magic moment" feeling in those viewing my art by pulling them in-capturing their minds, hearts and emotions. I grew up surrounded by nature in the Appalachian Mountains of Pennsylvania. When I was 8 years old I experienced an overwhelming need to capture the image of a deer. Only after I drew the deer did the "feeling" recede. I can still see the deer as if the incident happened yesterday. That awakening, so hard to describe, lives within me and I call it my "magic moment". My inspiration comes from the world around me. Nothing gives me more delight than to capture a "magic moment" and find that people viewing my art experience a similar feeling. A teacher once told me that most people are either two dimensional or three dimensional. She said I was both, which was very unusual. I find ...

John Powell - My art evoke a dialogue a message as a language I speak to create peace in a cosmic dialogue. If you are not honest, dont make artbecause ART is TRUTH time is Life time ceases to existdeath exist time is temporarytime movestime traps itself in timetime exist in time. My work speaks in a context of time,a painter and more recently exploring Photography.I choose not to privilege any one medium. The emotional and psychological content of my subject, the way the body expresses its dialogueemotion. It contextualizes the concepts of the duality of the meaning of the imagery. My style is an expression of my phillosophy which becomes a language, using,Post Modern,Expressionism,Latin American Tradition,Surrealism, soft Classism and Photography. It expresses my deep awareness of global issues and is counterbalanced with my cultural heritage. My inspiration originates from lifenature Its too spiritual to express. However,it is the same expressive energy as the work, transfused between energiesI use a certain iconograhy, which becomes a language. My art has helped me to see that nothing on earth is solitary, all things are interlinked. In order to see the impossible, you need to see the invisible My ...

Luise Andersen - Luise'Mignon' Andersen Luise'Mignon' Andersen has only recently begun to reveal her lifes work. Soon after her debut she exploded onto the mainstream art world. Her breathtaking pieces have captured international interest. The stories Luise'Mignon' is telling through her truly deep, layered works seem to decipher the past and foretell the future, perhaps sharing her window to other dimensions and a seventh sense. Her detailed acrylic'Mignon' series speaks to the beholder. They inspire raw emotion and ignite ones imagination. The indescribable nature of the "Duree De Ma Vie" in particular has a growing portion of the art community considering it the conception of an entirely new style. David Larkins - I've always been intrigued by the luminosity and transparencies found in watercolor and acrylic mediums. I believe an artist must experience the painting - to absorb the surroundings, the atmosphere, to have a oneness with the subject matter before the first brush stroke is applied. My style is described as "Abstract Realism" and my strength is found in the composition. I'm drawn to diverse subject matter that challenges the viewer to see abstraction in the ordinary - to meld the "real" world with the "abstract". ...

Susan Leopold - My art tells a nonlinear story that emerges from my dreams and memories. I am drawn to the dynamic between past and present,to what can be seen and what is invisible and the connection of the conscious to the unconscious mind. I work with portraits, old photos, materials, textures and objects that reflect their history. I am attracted to things that are imperfect, tactile, raw edged or torn. I juxtapose disjointed bits and pieces in the way that the mind replays the past. ...

Pam Griffin - Pam Griffin/Artist.I paint in acrylics, oils and watercolours. My work reflects New Zealand, uniquely the bush, the wildlife and mythical themes.I have great attention to detail and fine brushwork, with often a vein of humour and quirkiness as in my Pukeko series.I work with Trevor Heighway/Sculptor/partner on designs for sculpture commissions and our work can be viewed at www.artstonebone.com I take commissions for artworks and public murals. The NZ Pukeko bird inspires me to paint it humourously, they live in families and like us can be seen everywhere along our roads in NZ feeding and acting out their family dramas, they shreik, cackle, chirrup and scold and have great character. In the early days of colonial NZ and the rarity of varieties of childrens pets, orphaned pukeko chicks were often the children's pet providing much humour and exasperation as well. Pam Griffin...

Shelly Lahar - In my last semester of classes, I felt deeply troubled by the Iraqi War and what other mothers must be facing as their children fight for our country and painted a series on the Iraqi War and terrorism. I have had four paintings chosen for the Student Art Show in the spring of 2004, and have had the two war paintings shown selected for the 2005 Student Art Show with one semester of painting to go. I've also exhibited a piece in the Members Show at our local gallery in 2004 and 2005. I certainly hope you enjoy the work I've created! Please let me know if you do! Thank you so very much for looking! ...

Berit Nelson - My art reflects me; my ideas, my thoughts and my innermost struggles. As I go forth in life, I find inspiration everywhere.....in people, in places, in objects, but mostly in myself. What begins as an idea eventually grows into art, however I have discovered over the years that it is the process of getting there that I enjoy the most! My photography on the other hand, is another story. I enjoy taking pictures immensely and I have a good eye for it, and my real inspiration comes from that and that alone. I like seeing the final prints and remembering the journey I got to go on to get them! Sometimes the journey takes me far from home and other times I barely get out of the door but no matter where I end up, I usually find something beautiful to take a picture of!...

Ani Tejada - I love what I do and I do what I love. My art is an expression of love for the nature that an "Amazing Existence" out there gives us daily. Love is the power of existence. Love provides the energy that runs each of our hear beats. Love gives us flowers every spring and washes our souls every rainy day. Love gives us joy, energy. Love makes us wonder. Love increases our level of awareness. Love is the ultimate goal to everything. OH. YEAH!!!...

Van Hong Nguyen - Painting is a powerful language in which I express myself and communicate. The message within each painting is an illustrated element or aspect of my life. I paint the moments that capture me, the beautiful and the painful for the exquisiteness of any moment can make me cry, and then I paint. Sketching and drawing are tools of my vocabulary with which I discover and reveal my thoughts and feelings, and when I forget that I am making art, when I am purely communicating, I am free. ...

Van Hong Nguyen - Doni Kendig - I am actively pursuing my life-long love affair with art and satisfying the ache to share my personal impressions of desert vistas, tranquil seas lit by the setting sun, the sense of an oncoming storm, the temper of the cat, the arrogance of the eagle, and the menace of the predator. Essentially self-taught, I combine my observations of life and the contents of uncounted art texts and impressions gained from visits to galleries and museums, with imagination. Traveling the world, and especially each time I visit Africa, I find my imagination fired up with new images I can hardly wait to paint. ...

Marsha Bowers - Marsha Bowers was born and raised in the Central Valley of California. She is a classically trained fine artist, skilled in the old Masters techniques of Flemish/Bistre and Venetian method using a grisaille underpainting and glazing with many layers. Most of her fine art paintings are rendered in oil. She sometimes applies real gold leaf into the artworks. Marsha finds inspiration in the old masters of the past. She spends many hours visiting Museums studying their work. Gothic and Renaissance are her favorite periods along with the Pre-Raphaelites artists. The artist loves the blending of the classical painting techniques with a more contemporary approach to her paintings. Her recent fine art paintings are of women, both figurative and portraiture. The inspiration for her paintings comes from her observations of life itself and through her own experiences. Each painting shares a message, story or emotion. Its what the artist herself describes as a "flowing" of the spirit, a creative process through which the artist paints a story unto the canvas, realizing that each viewer of her work may have their own interpretation of what the art is conveying. Most recently Marsha was invited to be included into the International ...

James Parker - Painting, drawing, and to a lesser degree, photography, have been the driving creative force in my life for the past two years. The changing circumstances of life have allowed this to happen, and for this I am quite grateful. Pin and ink, liquid watercolors, acrylics, and the mixing of mediums are used for these works. My art is somewhere between reality and fantasy, with perhaps a unique style (as all are) which is slowly maturing. Much of my work I try to make light, colorful and fun, and even somewhat premitive with a touch of fantasy. Rustic little cabin scenes, and most seascapes perhaps show this best. Landscapes--mountains, trees, ocean and beach scenes, these are my favorite subjects. I prefer to work quite small. Most paintings and drawings come with wooden 11"X14" frames and hand selected colored mattes. These smaller sized works I have found to be excellent for creating pictures that are both colorful enough and detailed enough to carry an "impact". A few fine art's photographs taken back in the late eighties, some of which were published by a national calendar company in 1989 and 90 are also offered here. Those hundreds of hours looking ...
