David Larkins - I've always been intrigued by the luminosity and transparencies found in watercolor and acrylic mediums. I believe an artist must experience the painting - to absorb the surroundings, the atmosphere, to have a oneness with the subject matter before the first brush stroke is applied. Christine Lytwynczuk - Christine's paintings are about the human experience: relationships, emotions and introspection. She strives to evoke the feelings of empathy, hope, serenity and comfort through her work. Her paintings have a commanding presence, yet are quiet and exude a sense of intimacy. To be in a room with one of her paintings is like being in the presence of a close friend. Christine often paints children from different cultures, for children experience the same thoughts, fears, hopes and aspirations as adults, but they do not have emotional masks to hide behind. Jan Harrison - A close connection with the animal nature has helped me to have more empathy with all manifestations of the life force, and to express the complex experience of what it is to be here as a flesh and blood being. As long as I can remember, I have loved animals and felt a kinship with them. I live with five cats, all rescued strays, and one feral. They are an inspiration to me, and I learn from them. Emotion has always played a part in my work, as well as the kind of mythology that comes from the body's sensual and spiritual desires, something felt in the bones and cells. I am concerned about the need for love in a world that does not respect vulnerability. Erica Emerson - I remember gazing over my uncle Melvie's shoulder as he doodled the most wonderful characters on the dinner napkin at the local L & K diner. I had to be five or six. I knew at that moment that Art was to be my passion. I spent my childhood summers painting what my eyes interpreted. Muriel Van Marion Kasmin - A life in Art Painting for me is an expression, not of reality, but of a personal experience. Everyone has a "child within" and by expressing these feelings I can communicate more easily through my art. Michael Garr - I have been drawing and painting since Junior High. I enjoy quick art, impressionistic yet realistic, and minimal. There are interesting subjects all around us. My inspirations are architecture, people, light and shadow, the sea and boats, imagination... and the old masters. Get out and enjoy your surroundings. My opportunities for artistic expression have included drawing on napkins during airplane rides and waiting during my sons' music lessons.
