Artists Describing Their Art:

Audri Phillips - The paintings are done slowly, thought and dreamed about until the images seem correct to me. I apply layers of thin glazes and pay attention to the way thin paint runs and drips. This combination of chance and control hopefully leads to a better painting than I alone am capable of painting....

Leon Kuhn - My immediate environment is what inspires me, ranging from the people, culture, objects, thoughts and especially materials that I come in contact with. I have a close relationship to materials I find in nature that can be used or recycled. I often work in layers, building a texture and "feeling" into the work, letting the material influence the result, not so much the original idea. Born in South Africa in 1971, I moved to Sweden in 2001 and completed my education in painting, drawing, graphical printing and pottery at Folks Universitetet in Stockholm. In 2004 I moved to Kenya where I developed my techniques of building up collages from various materials like, pigments, sand, textile, hand made paper, rusted metal sheets, various animal dung etc. In 2005 I moved back to Sweden where I continued working and exhibiting in various solo and group exhibitions in Africa and Europe. ...

Nini Larranaga - I'm Nini and lets talk about art... I can't remember when was the first time art jumped inside me. Maybe when I was still in my mother's womb. All of my sences are related to art. I breath art, that is the air that maintains me alive. I really think that art is inside of every single being, you only have to be perseptive just to know it exists in everything. You can make it happen, just like magic. I always have drawn and paint, but life gave me the stone I stepped through to realize that there were other artists and that I had to study. I did enjoy reading their lives at first, and then study them. The more I knew, the more I feel that I really don't know enough. So... Study, study, study. Never ends. Life to me is a whole study in every way. Trial and error. The thing is to stand up again and doing it better trying to improve yourself. My painting is most of all authobiographical. That is what everyone who knows me say. I have to thank so many people that in one way or the other ...

Obert Fittje - In addition to the mythology of our culture, we all have certain experiences, expressions and images that have deep personal significance and meaning. These form the foundation of our personal mythology. Some of us have richer and more elaborate personal mythologies than others. Recently I came to the realization that I was mainly painting the images of my own personal mythology. I am self taught as a painter and after painting for eleven years, I consider that to my advantage as the icons of my mythology are rarely something out there in the material world. My paintings lie somewhere between the presence and the absence of an identifiable image. It would have been a waste of time for me to have spent years learning the techniques to make my paintings look realistic because the subjects of my mythology are mostly imaginary. I do not go outside to nature to find the subjects of my paintings, but rather I paint inside using my imagination and the images of my personal mythology. As a retired professional psychologist, I have been trained in the use of projective tests such as the Rorschach Inkblots where the observer is presented with purposely-vague images. The ...

Dov Lederberg - ******* I am engaged in the converging vectors of art and science, but receive added inspiration from kabbalah teachings & meditation and try to create visual forms conducive to mystical experience & self-transformation. ******** Page One Page Two Page Three - Selections from Dialogue - Antilogue series, Page Four - Selections from Kabbalah Mandala series, Page Five - Selection from Sacred Letters series, Page Six - Beyond Judaica, Page Seven - Biblical, Page Eight - Meditations, Page Nine - Visages of the Rebbe. ...

Ginny Jones - I was born in Hampshire England, I spent most of the early part of my childhood in the UK and Australia. From the age of 8yrs I was lucky to grow and mature in beautiful Dorset. I trained and worked as a hairdresser, meeting a wide range of interesting people. At the age of 24 I met my husband, we have 2 children. I have always been creative, taking on several different art and craft projects, It was in 2001, I decided to go back to college, on a Interior Decorative Techniques and Design course, It was the design part of this course which reawakened my spirit to create art work, after achieving a City and Guilds, I decided to join the fulltime Art and Design Foundation course, this course opened a whole new part of my life, Fine Art and Painting, I feel like I have been reawakened, I now have this immense desire to express passion and feeling through my art work. My husband's job brought us to New Zealand, seeing different parts of the world has been a fantastic inspirational journey. I am constantly experimenting with new ideas using mixed media; I use a wide range...

Dana Zivanovits - Dana Zivanovits was born in 1958 in Columbus, Ohio and received his art training from the Columbus College of Art and Design (1978 to 1982). After art school, he went abroad for a year and studied the art of the old masters in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome and Venice. Returning to his studio in Columbus to develop these influences into a new body of work, he then traveled to Mexico and studied the sculpture and painting of that country for an extended period. The unique and vivid colors of Palenque and Vera Cruz intensified his palette. After a period in Ohio, he then moved to Venice Beach, California where the brilliant light of the region reinforced his desire to capture effects of sunlight and atmosphere. Returning to Ohio in 1995, he has continued to paint themes deriving inspiration form sources such as world mythology, classic and B-grade cinema, literature and dreams. However his primary inspiration is direct observation from nature, versus an approach based in art theories or cultural critique. Dana has been widely represented by galleries and exhibition projects including Julie Rico and Mega Boom in Los Angeles, the Venice Art Detour, Around the Coyote Festival in Chicago ...

Steven Donnini - My art is about contempary mythology. The images are chosen based on what mythology they portray in global culture. The Dragons for example are about what mythology they impart to the viewer. In fact, they become what the viewer imagines they are. They can manifest love, luck and happeness for the owner. The other paintings remind the viewer of cultural mythology. The paintings are large scale oil paintings and they are also available in limited edition Giclee prints. Each painting requires 3 to 4 months to complete. ...

Pamela Henry - I am a Photography Artist. My process crosses analog and digital borders. Initially my images are captured on film, slides or digitally. I use a range of techniques from cross-process development and polaroid manipulation to digital painting, collage and layering to create what you see here. If I were to condense my thoughts on photographic expression into a single phrase it would be "in the moment". The moment begins at first sight and is complete when I release the shutter, lift my stylo from the polaroid, or remove my hand from the mouse. I know I will relive that feeling each time I look at the image, like a song or a smell that transports you to another place and time. This photographic expression translates beyond verbal expression and rests in your being, invoking a subjective reaction based on your experiences. Herein lies a collection of such moments. ...
